Federal Infrastructure Bill Funding Info Updates
The 180-day standards and requirements (180DS) for the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) program are scheduled to be published on May 13.

NACFE Studies EV Vans & Step Vans
The North American Council on Freight Efficiency (NACFE) has studied electric vans and step vans and come to some specific conclusions:
  • E-commerce is leading the doubling of the huge van and step van market.
  • Electrifying smaller commercial vehicles than larger commercial vehicles
  • The TCO for vans and step vans is approaching parity with ICE vehicles.
  • Planning can reduce the risks in transitioning to EVs.

Kia Niro 2023 Hybrid, PHEV, and EV
Kia revealed their 2023 lineup at the New York Auto Show. The hybrid is expected to have a 53mpg rating, the PHEV will have an EV range of 33 miles before the IC engine kicks in, and the EV will have a 253 mile range.

Hyundai Hybrid & EV Built in Alabama
Hyundai has announced that they will begin building the Santa Fe Hybrid and the Genesis GV70 EV in Alabama. The Santa Fe production will start in October and the Genesis in December.

The Butane Propane News (BPN) has published an eight-step outline of the steps fleets should take to ensure the safety of their propane refueling infrastructure.

EPA GHG National Inventory
The US EPA has released its 29th annual national GHG inventory from 1990 to 2020. The report shows an 11% decrease in GHG from 2019 to 2020 due a number of factors including energy efficiency improvements, and the carbon intensity of energy fuel choices.

Metrolink Switches to 100% Renewable Diesel
The Metrolink, providing passenger rail service on 538 miles of track in the LA Basin, has switched to using 100% renewable diesel in their locomotives.

NREL Study: Decarbonizing MD/HD Vehicles
A National Renewable Energy Labs (NREL) study predicts MD/HD ZEVs can reach total-cost-of-driving parity with conventional diesel vehicles by 2035, that 99% of new MD/HD sales can be ZEV by 2045 and that 80% of the MD/HD vehicles on the road will be ZEV by 2050.

The volumetric energy density of lithium-ion batteries increased eight-fold between 2008 and 2020, from 55kWh per liter to 450kWh per liter.
