DOE Announces Technical Assistance Program
|
|
The DOE has announced “LEAP,” a technical assistance program to assist low-income communities impacted by high energy costs that are also impacted by emissions from fossil fuel production or industrial facilities. 24 - 36 communities around the US will be selected to receive assistance.

CARB Advanced Clean Fleet Rule
|
|
CARB will hold a public [virtual] workshop on the Advanced Clean Fleet Rule (ACF) on October 13, from 9 - 12. As currently written, the rule will mandate that 50% of all MD/HD vehicle purchases by public agency fleets be ZEVs in 2024 and 100% be ZEVs in 2027.

CARB Board Meeting of the Mobile Source Strategy
|
|
The CARB Board will meet on October 28 at 9am, and the agenda will include approval of the mulit-pollutant strategy to accomplish the requirements of California’s numerous goals and targets as well as the governor’s Executive Order N-79-20 to achieve 100 percent of California sales of new passenger cars be zero-emission by 2035, that all drayage trucks be zero-emission by 2035, all off road equipment be zero-emission where feasible by 2035, and the remainder of medium- and heavy-duty vehicles be zero-emission where feasible by 2045.

Community Air Grant Applications
|
|
CARB’s Community Air Grant Program application deadline is October 1, 2021. The goal of the grants is to assist with community engagement and outreach related to AB 617. Typical projects may include (but are limited to):
- Hiring consultants or technical experts;
- Travel and logistical support for hosting or attending meetings;
- Support for community operated air monitoring;
- Data collection and analysis.

CEC Grid-Interactive Efficient Building (GEB) Workshops

The CEC will hold two virtual workshops on GEBs October First. At 10am the workshop will cover GEBs. At 2pm, the workshop will cover Load Flexibility.

Lightning Motors Powers Collins Bus

|
Lightning Systems has entered into an agreement with Collins bus to provide the drivetrains for over 100 Type A electric school buses.

Cummins has been awarded $5M by the US DOE to improve the efficiency of solid oxide electrolyzers. The goal will be to reduce the cost of “green hydrogen” for industrial, energy and transportation.

Cummins Developing Hydrogen ICE

|
Cummins is building on their extensive success in gaseous-fueled engines by developing a hydrogen fueled Internal Combustion Engine (ICE). Using renewable hydrogen, and the latest developments in power density, reduced friction and improved thermal efficiency, these engines will have zero GHG and Near-Zero NOx emissions.

Ford Investing in Battery Manufacturing Facilities
|
|
Ford announced that they will invest $11.4B building two manufacturing facilities for batteries and EVs. Between the two plants, Ford expects to create 11,000 jobs and achieve 40% to 50% of all new vehicles built to be EVs by 2030.

Sacramento Airport Receives Funds for ZEV Buses
|
|
The Federal Aviation Administration has awarded the Sacramento International Airport $4.6M to purchase ZEV shuttle buses and EVSE. By mid-year 2022, the Airport will have 18 ZEV buses in operation, with all 35 shuttle buses due to be ZEV over the next couple of years.

Chevron Joins Caterpillar on Hydrogen Projects
|
|
Chevron and Caterpillar have announced that they will work together to develop hydrogen projects across the power sectors, from transportation, pripe power and energy generation. One of the first projects will be powering locomotives, working with Progress Rail, a Caterpillar company.

Wireless Charging in Michigan
|
|
Michigan will pilot two wireless charging projects, one being dynamic charging (i.e. in-road systems that charge vehicles as they drive); and the other being specific locations where stationary vehicle wireless charging can occur.

The Butte County Association of Governments has been awarded $500K by Caltrans to study the opportunity to implement regular daytime rail service from Sacramento to Chico with stops in Marysville and Oroville. This service would be an extension of the added service already being developed between Stockton and Sacramento with stops in Elk Grove, Sacramento and Natomas.

The luxury EV startup Lucid has begun production at their Arizona factory and will be making deliveries to their 13,000 pre-order customers in October. The Lucid models will have over 500 miles of range and have achieved an industry best 4.6 miles/kWh efficiency.
