Edmunds Charging Efficiency Data
|
|
Edmunds tested 43 EVs against a standard that they developed, “Miles per Hour Charging”. The car that fared the best was the 2024 Hyundai Ioniq 6 (single motor) with 868 mi/charging hour. The worst was the 2022 Chevy Bolt Premier SUV at 172 mi/charging hour. Edmunds also measured how efficient the EVs were. The Ioniq came out on top again at 4.13 mi/kWh. For pickup trucks, the Rivian (2.13 mi/kWh) was slightly less efficient than the Lightning (2.20 mi/kWh).

Introducing EVs Into Fleets Has Many "Unadvertised" Costs
|
|
-
Maintenance facility modifications to meet OSHA and other safety requirements.
- Quarantine locations for EVs with damaged battery packs.
- Vehicle recalls on EVs take vehicles out of service.
-
Charging infrastructure is expensive, with L2 EVSE at $31,000 installed and DCFC at $185,000 installed [costs for Santa Clara County Fleet].
- Electricity as a fuel can cost significantly more than what is typically estimated in reports.
- EV Acquisition costs are higher, and for larger trucks, much higher.
- EVSE have significant costs for repairs and maintenance.
- Mechanic/technician training costs are higher and separate tools are required.
- Changes or replacements to vehicle lifts are required.
- EV collision repair costs are typically much higher than for ICE vehicles.
