New CARB Regulation
The California Air Resources Board has passed two regulations that will have a significant impact on MD/HD fleets. 

The Advanced Clean Truck regulation (ACT) will mandate that all MD/HD vehicles sold in California must have zero tailpipe emissions by 2045. Reporting and compliance schedules will be developed beginning in 2021.

The “Omnibus Low-NOx Rule” will require trucks sold starting in 2024 to have NOx emissions 75% below the current standard, and 90% below by 2027. The regulation also includes a mandatory 50% reduction in PM and other regulatory emission requirements.

Mercedes Benz Settlement
The US EPA, US Justice Department and CARB have reached a settlement of $1.5B with Mercedes Benz for violating emission standards. $110M will fund mitigation projects in California.

Newest Hyundai Nexo Dealership
The Sacramento Clean Cities Coalition welcomes the newest Hyundai Nexo hydrogen fuel cell crossover dealership in California, Roseville Hyundai, located at 200 N. Sunrise. The Nexo has a 380 mile range and there are now three hydrogen stations around Sacramento (Citrus Heights, Carmichael and West Sacramento).

City of Fairfield Selling Solar Message Board
The City of Fairfield Fleet Management Division, a Sacramento Clean Cities Coalition partner, is selling a nearly-new solar message board (Solartech model MB3-LR-1548). They have been authorized to sell it at fair market value, but may only sell it to another government agency.

Kenworth Zero Emission Trucks Available for Order
Kenworth, one of the largest truck manufacturers in the US, has announced that they will have two heavy-duty battery-electric truck models available for order now, with delivery by the end of the year. Fuel Cell Electric Bus Initiative
The Center for Transportation and the Environment is sponsoring a “100 Bus Fuel Cell Electric Bus Initiative.” Fuel Cell buses have now operated over 10 million miles meeting Buy America compliance, FTA Altoona testing and refueling times and range equivalent to CNG.

GM Wireless Battery
General Motors has provided some insights into their wireless battery management systems. This system will allow battery packs to be sized and configured independently, without wiring concerns, eliminating 90% of the wiring normally required in battery packs.

GM Will Build Nikola Pickup
General Motors has also announced that their recently announced partnership with Nikola will result in GM building Nikola’s Badger pickup truck, which will be available with either battery electric or fuel cell powertrains.

Dependable Highway Express Piloting Volvo Electric Heavy Duty Trucks
Volvo has placed a BEV Class 8 tractor into service in Southern California with Dependable Highway Express (DHE), a major US truck fleet currently operating over 500 Volvo tractors. The Volvo VNR tractor will make daily 60 - 80 mile trips between warehouses in the Ontario area.

Costco has created a special $3,000 discount for leasing or buying a Chevy Bolt through their Costco Auto Program. This can bring a monthly lease to $194. One dealer in San Francisco is including additional incentives, bringing the monthly lease to $154.

Rivian Provides Close-Up Look at Pre-Production of Electric Pickup
Rivian has announced that they will begin commercial production of their R1T electric pickup truck in June, 2021 and their R1S electric SUV in August, 2021. Pre-production vehicles are being built now for durability testing.

Worksport Solar Panel Tonneau Cover
Worksport, an aftermarket manufacturer of tonneau covers for pickup trucks, has developed a solar panel tonneau cover along with a battery storage and detachable portable power unit. Worksport has established an agreement with one electric pickup company (unnamed) for the unit to be a factory option.

Refineries Report
For the week ending 9/4/20, refineries in California produced 264,012 gallons of gasoline and 104,370 gallons of diesel. Gasoline production decreased by 5.2% and diesel production increased by 7.6% percent from last week’s production numbers. The wholesale price of propane on the Texas board on July 16 was 52.919¢ per gallon.
