SacEV Event at the Automobile Museum
SacEV is holding their first IN-PERSON event in over a year July 15, at the California Automobile Museum (2200 Front Street, Sacramento). Joseph Oldham, CEO of New Vision Aviation, pilot of the first 100% sun-powered flight from Fresno to Sacramento will talk about the flight, the aircraft and the future of zero-emission aviation. Beam Global is the company providing the solar recharging systems, and their CEO, Desmond Wheatley will provide info about how their system is able to provide off-grid power. The meeting will also include:

SacEV Invites EV Owners to EV Raceway
SacEV Invites EV Owners to “EV Raceway” held at the Sacramento Raceway Drag Strip, 5305 Excelsior Road (south of Mather Field) on July 21 from 4:30pm - 7pm. $15 per car and driver. Passengers and spectators are $10. Drivers must have a helmet and long pants. Fireproof jackets may be required (and some are available for loan at the event).

County of Sacramento Sustainability Manager Opening
County of Sacramento has listed the position of Sustainability Manager, responsible for developing and overseeing a wide variety of sustainability programs. Application filing deadlines are scheduled for July 22 and August 19 (final).

County of Sacramento has listed the position of Energy Program Manager, with responsibilities for County owned and leased equipment and physical facilities, and the development, implementation, and evaluation of energy conservation and management programs. The final filing date is August 6.

VW Mitigation Trust for Freight and Marine Vehicles is Now Open
The Volkswagen Environmental Mitigation Trust for Freight and Marine vehicles and equipment is open now with $34 million in funding on a first-come first-served solicitation. An additional $35 million is expected to be available in mid-2022.

VW Mitigation Fund for EVSE Has Been Extended
The $5 million Volkswagen Environmental Mitigation Fund application deadline for the purchase and installation of new EVSE has been extended until August 18. An information workshop on the grant fund is scheduled for July 29 at 11am.

Sac Metro Air District Accepting Applications for Supplemental Environmental Impact Program
The Sac Metro Air District is now accepting applications for their Supplemental Environmental Impact Program. Up to $140,000 will be available in this round of funding, which closes on July 30. Eligible projects must be in a District Priority Community. Eligible projects include:
  • Air Pollution Prevention or Reduction: 
  • Air Quality Related Education or Compliance Training: 
  • Community Air Monitoring:
  • Environmental Restoration and Protection: 
  • Projects considered on a case-by-case basis if there is a demonstrated substantial health or environmental benefit and are consistent with the District SEP Policy.

New Updates, Regulations, and Requirements
New EVSE Installer Requirement
New EVSE Installer Requirement: AB-841, the “Energy: Transportation Electrification: Energy Efficiency Programs: School Energy Efficiency Stimulus Program” authored by Assembly member Ting and signed into law by the governor on September 30, 2020, includes a requirement in section 740.2, that any EVSE installation funded in whole or in part by the PUC, the CEC or CARB must be done by a properly licensed electrician and at least one member of the installation crew must hold an Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Training Program certification (EVITP).

Motiv has delivered battery electric step vans to Bimbo Bakery in Yuba City. Motive has also announced the appointment of Tim Krauskopf as CEO. Krauskopf comes to Motiv from his position as Global Executive Director at AREPA, a global equipment restoration company.

Cummins has announced that it will acquire a 50% equity interest in Momentum Fuel Technologies from Rush Enterprises. Cummins will then have Cummins-branded natural gas fuel and Cummins-branded CNG fuel delivery systems.

US DOE Manufacturing Loans to Develop Domestic Manufacturing
The US DOE will make $17.7B available in loans to manufacturers to develop domestic manufacturing of fuel-efficient vehicles and vehicle components. Most of these funds are expected to go toward developing domestic battery production for BEVs.

Volkswagen has announced that they plan to develop a single platform (dubbed the “Scalable Systems Platform” or SSP) for all their EVs, and the platform will be made available to other car companies.
