CARB Heavy-Duty Vehicle Inspection and Maintenance (HD I/M) Program - Next Workgroup Meeting - February 22, 2021. This new regulation will apply to all vehicles over 14,000#. Fleets will need to establish an account and submit regular reports. CARB also expects to do on-road “remote sensing” to identify vehicles with excessive emissions.

President Biden has issued executive orders to transition the federal government’s fleet of 600,000 vehicles to electric, although a timeline hasn’t been established for the transition.

Navistar Class 8 Fuel Cell Trucks

|
Navistar is planning to put hydrogen fuel cell Class 8 trucks with 500 miles of range and 15 minute refueling times into pilot operation with JB Hunt by 2022 and commercial production by 2024. The fuel cell technology will come from GM’s Hydrotec Power Cubes, with each cube providing 80kW.

Lordstown Motors has announced that they will be bringing a van to market immediately following the introduction of the Endurance electric pickup this Fall. They have also announced that they have signed a battery contract with LG Chem.

California’s Karma Automotive has partnered with Denmark’s Blue World Technologies to demonstrate a fuel cell electric vehicle using methanol, not compressed hydrogen. Methanol is a liquid fuel that can be stored and dispensed much like gasoline, making 600 mile range with 5 minute refills possible.

California Refineries: For the week ending 1/29/21, refineries in California produced 5,905 barrels of gasoline and 1,750 barrels of diesel. The current LCFS Credit for 1 MT of CO2 is $192.50.
