The Northern California Chapter of the Municipal Equipment Maintenance Organization (NorCal MEMA) in partnership with the Sacramento Clean Cities Coalition, the East Bay Clean Cities Coalition and the Northern California-Nevada Chapter of the National Association of Fleet Managers (NorCal-Nevada NAFA) produced a one-day workshop on September 26 at the Discovery Bay Yacht Club near Brentwood, California. 110 fleet managers heard presentations on state mandates for fleet electrification, grant and funding opportunities, telematics, and asset management strategies.

The US EPA's 2019 School Bus Rebate Program, offering grants for low and zero-emission school buses, is open now with applications from public school districts due by October 30 at 10am PST.

Hydrogen is a versatile fuel that car, truck, bus, and even ship manufacturers are planning to use. Honda, Hyundai, and Toyota are selling hydrogen cars today, and the only emission that comes from these vehicles is pure water.

Toyota and Subaru Cooperation
|
|
Toyota has increased its equity position in Subaru from 17% to 20% with an investment of $742M, and Subaru has reciprocated with a similar investment in Toyota. The companies will cooperate on electric drivetrains and autonomous technologies.

California Separate Emission Standards
|
|
On September 19, the US EPA and the National Highway Administration withdrew California's ability to set separate emission standards under the SAFE Vehicle Rule. On September 20, California and 22 states sued to keep the exemption. CARB is currently updating their on-road emission model (EMFAC) while the SAFE Rule would prevent the use of EMFAC and mandate the use of the EPA's model.

Rivian, with major investments from auto publishing behemoth Manheim, and on-line retailing giant Amazon is rumored to be exploring a direct-to-customer marketing strategy. Unlike Tesla's direct sales model that has met with lawsuits, Rivian may be planning a subscription club approach, similar to what several luxury car makers have implemented.

The CEC reported that California refineries received 422.6 million gallons of crude oil in the week ending 9/27/19, and produced 131.9 million gallons of diesel and 299.3 million gallons of gasoline.
