CHAMBER ADVOCACY
URGENT ACTION REQUEST
Those of you that attended our Annual Retreat in 2019 will remember Keynote Speaker, Natalie English (President & CEO of the Wilmington Chamber of Commerce). Natalie is leading a coalition of Chambers across the state (of which the Asheboro/Randolph Chamber is part) that are joined together advocating for the deductibility of Payroll Protection Plan paid expenses on North Carolina's tax returns. If you are not aware of this issue, the federal government is utilizing the tax code to provide additional stimulus to employers by making forgiven PPP loan proceeds tax deductible AND allowing businesses to deduct the expenses paid for by the loans as regular business expenses.

However, North Carolina has "decoupled" from this policy and will not be allowing these deductions. We are the only southeastern state to decouple and tax small businesses in this way.

HB334 will bring North Carolina in line with the federal government and our southeastern neighbors. It passed the House on it's second reading.

If this bill is not supported, North Carolina's small businesses will be penalized disproportionately to our neighboring states (South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, Louisiana, and Mississippi). We encourage you to communicate your support of HB334 to our Senator Dave Craven (see contact info below).
