Message
from the
President,
Linda Brown
It has been incredibly satisfying to SEE people out and about again! Last Thursday was our 3rd Business After Hours in this new era of post-COVID vaccine. Seeing so many people at one time has been wonderful. Being in restaurants and places like Four Saints, Leo's Whiskey Bar, and Copperheads games that are FULL and alive with people has been exciting. And all the SMILES! Have you ever seen so many smiles?! The smiling and happy faces have brought the word 'gratitude' to the forefront of my mind. Gratitude to witness such resilience. Gratitude to live in a community where people value each other. Gratitude to see the restoration of events and activities we were denied for so long. Most of all, gratitude for being part of an organization and team that has hung together and continued to strive to make Asheboro and Randolph County a great place to live, work, and do business. We are incredibly lucky to have the world's best head-start on that work: it is all of you. The combination of people, businesses, industries, churches, civic clubs, and non-profits already make this a wonderful place. Thank you for letting us be a part of it!

CHAMBER ADVOCACY
LAST WEEK IN WASHINGTON D.C.:
The Restaurant Revitalization Fund Replenishment Act has been introduced in the House and Senate. The measure would provide an additional $60 billion for the RRF - enough to process the existing applications in the SBA que. We encouraged all local restaurants and beverage establishments to apply for these grant dollars. This appears to be an Act that would ensure all that have applied will be fulfilled. Please contact our Congressional representatives (contact info is below) to add your voice to press for action. Many of our local food service entrepreneurs will benefit.

RECENT DEVELOPMENTS IN RALEIGH:
SB43: An Act to Enact the Religious Assembly Security and Protection Act of 2021 and to Authorize Concealed Carry for Certain Law Enforcement Facility Employees.
This bill would authorize carrying a handgun in a place of religious worship that is also educational property under certain conditions. It would also authorize concealed carry for certain law enforcement facility employees. LATEST ACTION: SB43 was vetoed by the Governor on June 18th: "For the safety of students and teachers, North Carolina should keep guns off school grounds. Therefore, I veto the bill."

TODAY IN THE NC SENATE: Second Reading for Public Bills
HB238: Prohibit Possession of Skimming Device (1st Edition)
HB272 CS: Revise Health Standard for Lead (2nd Edition)
HB341 SCS: Protection from Online Impersonation (3rd Edition)
HB344 SCS: System Development Fees Update (3rd Edition)
HB629: Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner/STOP Act Clarification (1st Edition)
HB734 SCS: Dept. of Health & Human Services Revisions (2nd Edition)
