2022 Slate of Board Members
and Officers Announced

The Nominating Committee has been hard at work putting together a slate of Board Members and Officers for 2022. The Committee consisted of:
  •  Kelly Heath
  •  Nicki Hill
  •  Pam Hill
  •  Art Martinez
  •  Joel McClosky
  • Jerry Moore
  •  Linda Brown
Over the past few months, the Nominating Committee has learned how much leadership roles within our business and manufacturing community have changed in recent yearsMuch of the change was forced as a result of COVID, and some has simply been the natural evolution of time: many key leaders are retiring and a younger generation are stepping into those positions. Company leaders are doing more work with less people and fewer resources than in past years. People we targeted for the Slate are just like all of you: stretched thin and striving to navigate a healthy work/life balance. After listening to a number of leaders in the community, we are recommending something new that would impact the Chamber in 2023: Rather than having a single Board Chair, we are recommending Co-Chairs (Darwin Smith and Chris Griffin). Additionally, beginning in 2022, we are opening up the opportunity to everyone on the Board to volunteer to be the "Host" of our various Chamber events (like Business After Hours, Ribbon Cuttings, etc). This is a great opportunity for our Board Members to be recognized for the commitment and support they give the community.

One thing I am proud to have witnessed is how our Chamber has been flexible and adaptive in a wildly changing economy and society. In order to continue with the tradition of having quality individuals and leaders involved in the Chamber, we have to be willing to change some of our traditions. They say "it takes a village". Words could not be more true in these ever changing times. Thank you to all of our Members for being part of our community's village that makes this a great place to live, work, and do business.

We are entering a critical point in the 2021 legislative session, with the Senate having already advanced their proposed budget and the House expected to unveil theirs during the first week of August. Our friends at the NC Chamber have launched dual social media campaigns to spotlight two priorities: repealing NC's regressive franchise tax on business assets and modernizing our formula for capturing state transportation revenue. These are the two issues that have been consistently reported as being critical for the continued success of the entire state.
