Giving Tuesday

Giving Tuesday was created in 2012 as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good. GivingTuesday is an independent nonprofit and a global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity. Habitat for Neighborhood Business is a non-profit organization focusing particularly on helping minority entrepreneurs realize their dream to own and operate a business in economically challenged neighborhoods. The donations from this year's campaign will go to the mentorship program to further promote entrepreneurship within group settings.

HNB Spotlight

HNB Board Member Brooks Goedecker Brooks Goedecker has the pleasure to work with the neighborhoods surrounding Saint Louis University's campuses as Executive Director of the St. Louis Midtown Redevelopment Corporation. Due to the corporation's ongoing redevelopment efforts, there will be a host of new retail stores and services coming to the area. He sometimes is asked by neighborhood residents if there will be business owners who look like them and will their be services that they are interested in purchasing.   Brooks shared, "Habitat for Neighborhood Business does an excellent job making sure that our city is well represented by a diverse set of local business owners and entrepreneurs. We want to assure that there is a diverse offering of products and services in the Midtown area and Habitat for Neighborhood Business is a vital partner in making that a reality."  We applaud Brooks as our Board Member of the month and thank him for his support! HNB Mentor Steve Goldsmith Steve Goldsmith started his first business, Goldsmith Medical Company, in 1983 focusing on Rehab and Fitness products for both clinical and home use. Over the next twenty-five years the business grew to include several locations encompassing commercial distribution, retail stores and medical equipment for patient home care.  The business was sold to a large corporation where he stayed for several years, continuing to manage this part of their business. He has been involved in buying and selling several businesses and, since leaving his company, he has been consulting and volunteering in the community.   Steve was excited to learn about HNB and the HNB mission. He wanted to get involved to help new entrepreneurs become more successful starting and growing their businesses in St Louis Neighborhoods and share his expertise. Steve contacted HNB and he is now an HNB mentor. We congratulate Steve on joining the Habitat for Neighborhood Business mentor program!
