This week in worship
The word this week continues to challenge us as we long to have more faith in the face of fear. One of the mantras I live by is: "Do not let the fear of the unknown overwhelm you." Fear can easily overwhelm and even paralyze us. Fear is a powerful motivator but as Christians, our goal is to allow our faith to trust God to see us through all obstacles that come our way. I look forward to exploring more with you on Sunday how we can grow our faith and manage our fears.

Congregational News
We extend Christian sympathy to Peggy Barnard on the death of her husband, Alex Barnard, who passed away on August 17th. Visitation will be at Denver UMC on Saturday, August 24th, from 1:00 - 2:45 p.m. in the chapel, with a Celebration of Life service beginning at 3:00 p.m. in the sanctuary.

First Thursday Lunch
First Thursday Lunch is back! Please join us Thursday, Sept. 5th from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. in the Family Life Center for food, fellowship and entertainment. All proceeds support local children and their families. All are welcome! To order whole chicken pies or baked spaghetti, call 704-483-1601. Join us Tuesday, Sept. 3, at 10:00 a.m. in the FLC to pick chicken! Call Carol, 704-530-2442, for details.

Wow! Words cannot express the amazing blessing DUMC has been for Starboard Christian Academy. The furniture (cubbies, bookshelves, tables), books, educational games, bulletin board items were much needed items for our school. Our classrooms look amazing and will function wonderfully this year because of your generous support. The teachers and staff were absolutely blown away when they saw all of the items. You have truly blessed our school beyond what we thought was imaginable! God is great!   
Throughout the whole process of starting a school we have all put such faith in the fact that God will provide exactly what we need. Thank you for being a body of believers that noticed our need and reached out with open arms. We are humbled by your generosity and support.   
Please know that because of your compassion we will now be able to bless others more abundantly through our programs.

MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers)
MOPS is back in season and our first meeting will be Friday, September 6th from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. We will be learning about what it means to live your life “To the Full” in the midst of raising little ones! Wednesday Morning Women's Bible Study will be studying "The Faithful: Heroes from the Old Testament" beginning September 4th at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel. The cost of the book is $15. Please contact Dava Lackey at with any questions. To request childcare, signup online at .

Moms, Meal and a Message
M3 is a group for moms like you!

We are excited to announce that the night time moms’ group formerly "night time MOPS" will have a new name and format. With the expanded age group, we are now M3 - Moms, Meal and a Message.  

We will have monthly gatherings held at DUMC starting in September on the 2nd Monday evening of each month at 6:30. Our first meeting will be September 9th in the CORC. The message will be focused on "Thrive, don't just Survive". So, whether you're stressed about the chaos involved with back to school or you're fighting mountains of laundry - this evening is for you! 

Dinner will be served. Childcare provided. Join us for fellowship, fun, good food and a message! And, put together your own survival kit! ALL moms welcome. Invite your friends. Join our Facebook group:

We had over 70 plus people show up for our YOUTH KICK OFF! I was so excited! It was a great night of fellowship and worship! we hope you'll join us next Sunday 8/25 from 6-8pm in the FLC!

Our church office hours are Monday - Thursday 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. (The office is closed for lunch from 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. daily), and the office is closed on Fridays. If you are in need of pastoral care outside regular office hours, please call (980)247-0033.

The church offices will be closed August 28th for off-site staff training. All scheduled evening events will continue as normal. The church office will reopen Thursday morning at 8:30 a.m.
