Your weekly news & updates
This week in worship
This Sunday we will take time out from our current worship series so I can share where I, along with your church leadership, believe God is calling DUMC to go over the next five years. I hope you all received the Vision Booklet in your regular mail detailing the overall plan (if you did not, we will have additional copies available). Also, members of the Planning Team will be available to answer questions and receive feedback in the FLC hallway outside the library. Additionally, the same presentation will be made at 5:00 p.m. in the CORC on Sunday night with comments, questions, and suggestions received following that time. I ask that you please pray for me, our planning team, and our entire congregation leading up to our time together this Sunday.

Don't forget! Our early service will resume meeting at 8:15 a.m. this Sunday. Also this Sunday we will welcome a new musician to serve alongside Brittany Bethel and Leanne Callahan - Mr. Neal Hayes. Neal has been an organist at churches in Michigan, Kentucky, and North Carolina, and he has a bachelor's degree in music from Wittenburg University in Ohio and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Virginia. Neal also works as a lawyer, tutor, and piano teacher. He is grateful for the opportunity to participate in worship at Denver UMC and looks forward to meeting the members of the congregation.

Following the 8:15 a.m. service, we will have a stand-alone communion service for anyone who wishes to receive this sacrament. This service will commence at approximately 9:15 a.m. and conclude by 9:25.a.m. Those who attend the early service may simply remain in the sanctuary. Those who attend either 9:30 a.m. Sunday School or the 9:30 a.m. worship service are invited to participate as well.
You're Invited!
On September 22nd after each service, the Planning Team will show the next steps toward fulfilling our God-inspired vision. These next steps are exciting and crucial to our desire to reach our community more effectively with the Good News of Jesus Christ. Come join us to take a closer look at the architect’s drawings that will walk you through our new additions. Visit the library hallway, located to the left of the Sanctuary, after worship to view the plans for Step One and Step Two. You will not want to miss this opportunity to see the 5-year plan for Denver UMC. This will be a great opportunity to get answers to your questions. Look for the folks with the “Ask Me” name tags. We will present the same information on September 22nd at 5:00 p.m. in the CORC. We look forward to seeing you there!
If you did not receive a book or would like to read it online, please click this link ( ) to be taken to an online version of the booklet.

Ministry Update from East Asia
At the end of August the STINTers (short-term interns with Cru working overseas) arrived back in East Asia and, just like that, a new year started. Hailey and Philip are returning for a second year, and Hope is joining us for her first year. Zach, Emily and I were excited to have a full team after the summer break. Would you please pray for our new team? Pray that we would follow Paul's admonition in Philippians 2 - "being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves." And would you also pray for the students on our two campuses this year? Pray that each of them would meet someone who is a Christian and have the opportunity to hear the gospel.
New Horizons Bake Sale
You’re probably thinking, “Where could I get a tasty dessert to enjoy after church? How about something for dinner?” The answer is right here in the DUMC CORC. The finest cooks in our church are preparing their best dishes just for you. On Sunday, September 29th, the New Horizons Class will be offering baked goods, home canned goods, snack mix, and other goodies for sale to support their Christmas community outreach program. Mark your calendar to cruise over to the CORC between 9:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. or until the food runs out. Your stomach will thank you!

Prayer Shawl Ministry
Knitters and Crocheters are invited to join our Prayer Shawl ministry which will meet the last Thursday of every month in WAB 101 at 10:00 a.m. All experience levels are welcome. We make shawls of comfort to distribute to those who are suffering for any reason, to give them hope and to let them know others are praying prayers for them while we knit. You may knit/crochet at home and bring the finished shawl to our meeting and it will be blessed, and given out by the ministerial staff. Yarn is available at the meetings, so come with your hooks and needles and enjoy yourself while doing something so worthwhile. For more information please contact Maggie Kessler at 704-947-8557 or

Administrative News
Dear Denver UMC Family,
It is with much sadness that I share with you today that, due to my personal and family situations, I need to resign from my role as Director of Communication, effective September 20, 2019. I could never leave my position without being able to share with my church family how much you have meant to me, and I wanted to share this news personally. It has been my joy and pleasure to serve you for the last four years as Office Administrator, and for the newly-transitioned Director of Communication. I was looking forward to my new adventures and all the exciting developments in store for DUMC. My husband is being deployed, from the ARMY again, in a week’s time - and we are not sure for the duration or final destination. Please pray for him as he serves our great country. This situation, coupled with additional family responsibilities, leaves me knowing that I can not commit 110% to the church, and I would not want to give anything less.  I am needed out of town to help my family and am not sure of the length of my stay.  I am thankful for all the support and encouragement that I have received at DUMC, especially during my difficult health situations. I very much regret leaving all the people I have grown so close to, but trust that the future holds blessings for myself and my family as well. I wish all at Denver UMC every happiness. I pray that our paths cross again very soon, and I always leave bridges open for opportunities to where God leads me in the future! Thank you for your understanding and your love.
Yours Sincerely,

Patti Carr
