This Sunday in Worship
We will be concluding our “Back to Life” series this weekend with another reading from the book of Acts (16:9-15). This text tells us the story of Paul ending up randomly and unexpectedly at a prayer meeting outside of the city of Philippi. What interests me is that Paul had other plans for his journey but through various unsuccessful efforts in some places he chaotically ends up in the right place at the right time to share the good news of Jesus with a woman who will become a major player in Paul’s overall ministry. Paul’s detours got him to the right place! Have you ever thought that your own journey was nothing more than a series of detours? How many of us can claim that everything has worked out in our journey just as we planned? Life takes twists, turns, and detours but God is with us all the way, building a better future for everyone. When we embrace this reality we can see that the detours are a part of the overall journey to get us where we need to be. In life, the detour is the journey because God is in all of it.

Registration for the June course ends this Thursday, May 23

Once again the Catawba Valley District is offering classes on Methodism for clergy and laity who serve in leadership positions in your church.

These courses were so popular and so well-received this past winter that we have collaborated again with Dr. Jonathan LeMaster-Smith to offer them for those who weren't able to attend.

There are three 2-day classes offered this summer:
  • United Methodist History -- June 7 (9am - 5pm) - June 8 (9 am - 3 pm) *Registration ends Thursday, May 23*
  • United Methodist Doctrine -- July 26 (9am - 5pm) - July 27 (9 am - 3 pm)
  • United Methodist Polity -- August 16 (9am - 5pm) - August 17 (9 am - 3 pm)

Each class consists of 2 days of instruction, held on a Friday - Saturday. The cost for each 2-day class will be $35, which covers the cost of refreshments and lunches. There are also books that are required, which you will need to purchase before class and bring with you. The books are available at www.amazon.com and/or www.cokesbury.com .

Classes will be held at Casar UMC (124 Casar Methodist Church Rd., Casar, NC).

** Certificates will be issued, which can then be used for CEU credit or for Catawba Valley District Advanced Lay Servant course credit.

Thank you to the crew that built my ramp. God bless each of you and your families.

Carol Chittum
The Weekday Preschool is grateful for all of the support Denver United Methodist Church has given over the past ten years. This has been a beautiful ministry that has enriched many children and their families in our community. We have allowed children to grow, learn, and play while showering them with the love of Christ. Thank you for partnering with this ministry.
Thank you so much for the ramp. I had absolutely no idea how I would ever get the ramp I needed to get my scooter out of the house. You guys are my heroes. I have never felt more blessed than I do today. You are the answer to my prayers. There are not enough words to express how grateful I am.

Sincerely,
Karen Viers & Family
