Call for Illustrator Conference Alumni!

Hello Illustrators! Did you participate in a portfolio review or illustrator intensive during the Creating Together Conference this past September?? If you did, then we would love to hear about how your work has developed since then. We will be holding a special meeting via Zoom after the first of the year to check in with you, learn how we can support you, and share images of any revision work you've done since the conference. Stay tuned for more!

Featured Illustrator: Bre'Anna Washington
I’m Bre’Anna, lovingly known as Bee! I've been a member of SCBWI for a little over a month. I attended art school until about 10th grade, but I wasn’t transformed by art until I began learning from and about artists who looked like me and who came from where I’m from. Although I had seen the art of Romare Bearden, Augusta Savage, Jean-Michel Basquiat, and Ernie Barnes in family homes, magazines, and schoolbooks, I wasn’t formally introduced to these artists until I began attending The Grier Heights Community Youth Arts Program after school!

I’m so grateful to each of my mentors who poured into me and allowed me to find myself through ART. I am equally grateful to have the opportunity to pour back into the students who are coming up in the program through mindful practices, visual art, the spoken word, and now two indie-published books! I literally sat where they are right now, over a decade ago. Now my students get to see themselves in me and know that they can do anything they attune their hearts to--and I’m just getting started!

I am working on myself and expanding my art practice daily. So, I’m steady on the come up and I will be presenting a 3-day beginners illustration class at the Mint Museum in Charlotte, NC for students in February! I am booking new projects for 2022 and am currently representing myself all day everyday, so I’m open to connect with an equally dynamic and dedicated agent! Let’s make magic!
