Lower Makefield Township Announces First 9/11 Memorial Maintenance Reimbursement

Lower Makefield Township is pleased to share that its partnership with the 9-11 Memorial Garden of Reflection, Inc. has resulted in the first annual reimbursement to the Township in the amount of $53,248.61: fully covering landscaping costs for the 9/11 Memorial.

Funded through the nonprofit’s Remembrance Fund endowment, established in 2011, the reimbursement ensures that ongoing maintenance expenses do not fall on Township taxpayers. Township Manager David W. Kratzer, Jr. expressed gratitude for the organization’s continued partnership and generous support.

In addition to maintaining the Memorial itself, the Remembrance Fund also covered landscaping costs this year from the front entrance of Memorial Park to the Flag Circle, including the Oak Garden Arboretum. These shared spaces enhance access to the Memorial and provide a beautiful setting for reflection.

The Township extends its sincere thanks to the donors who make this support possible and help ensure that the Memorial will be preserved for generations to come — so we will Never Forget.

A nomination for the Thomas Janney Historic Agricultural District listing on the National Register of Historic Places was submitted last week to the Pennsylvania State Historic Preservation Office. The review process is anticipated to take approximately 9-12 months; with a decision expected to be made in late 2026 to early 2027.

Q. Are permits required for my home improvement project?

• A permit is always required for any addition or structural modification to your existing living space. Permits are required for electrical modifications, plumbing work, window modifications that enlarge openings, mechanical system installations, pools, patios, decks, fences, sheds, & driveway expansions. Permits are now required to be submitted through our Online Permitting & Citizen Requests Portal. You can find General Instructions for Permits with what is typically required under the Community Development Department.

On the main page of our website at LMT.org, you will find a button that will take you to our online permitting system. Here, you can file a permit, report a code violation, request public records and more.

Once you click 'Online Permitting & Citizen Requests' you can search for building permits and explore other forms.

Join the Environmental Advisory Council when they host a lecture on the impacts of data centers. This event will take place on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at 10 am in the Township building (1100 Edgewood Road, Yardley, PA 19067). Admission is free!

There is still time to donate!

Donations are piling up as we are quickly approaching our drop off date! If you have not had the chance to donate, don't worry, we will be collecting last minute donations into early next week. All donations are collected at the Township building - 1100 Edgewood Road, during normal business hours.

Thank you to everyone who donated to our volunteer effort this month, your generosity and kindness make a lasting impact.

 Items Eligible for Collection:

Adult bags: Fill a gallon-sized Ziploc bag with a full-size shampoo or body wash, bar of soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, and a razor.

Youth bags: Replace adult shampoo with full-size children’s shampoo and children’s toothpaste and toothbrushes, one bar of children’s soap (Dove or kids body wash); no razor or deodorant needed.

Feminine hygiene bags: In a brown paper bag place 10 tampons (multiple sizes are helpful), 10 panty liners and 10 full size pads.  

Bucks County is hosting a series of Household Hazardous Waste & Recycling (HHW) events in 2026 with the first event taking place on Saturday, April 4, 2026, at Bucks County Community College - 275 Swamp Road, Newtown, PA 18940. Full event details are available below:

In Pennsylvania, all dogs must be licensed at point of purchase or adoption (earliest is 8 weeks of age) or by 3 months if no transfer of ownership has occurred. All dogs that do not have a lifetime license must be licensed by Jan. 1 of each year.

For 2026, an annual license is $10.80, and a lifetime license is $52.80. Discounts are available to older adults and people with disabilities.

The small license fee helps protect the millions of dogs across the state, the families who adopt or purchase them, and the communities they live in by funding the important work of the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture Bureau of Dog Law Enforcement.

Dog licenses are available from your local county treasurer and other licensing agents.

Reasons for dog licensing:

• It’s the law. All dogs must have a license when they are purchased or adopted.
• If your dog gets lost, a license is the best way to get him back. A license helps animal control and shelters identify your dog and get him back home safely.
• The cost of a license is less than the penalty for being caught without one. Owners who fail to license their dogs could face a fine of up to $500, plus court costs, for each unlicensed dog.
• License fees support animal control. The annual fee you pay to license your dog helps keep shelters running and supports the work of the Bureau of Dog Law Enforcement, which is responsible for ensuring the welfare of dogs, regulating dangerous dogs and overseeing annual licensing and rabies vaccinations.
