Increase in INZ visa fees from 1 October 2024

With effect from 1 October 2024, Immigration New Zealand is increasing the visa fees for all categories of visa applications. If you have already started the process for your visa application, please submit all pending documents to our office well in time to preempt paying a higher visa fee.

Skills Requirement eased for some roles for Accredited Employer Work Visas (AEWVs)

The New Zealand Government has announced short-term exemptions to the Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV) skills requirements for a limited number of roles and sectors. These changes are designed to avoid shortages in specified sectors while long-term AEWV changes are being decided. The exemptions will be available for new applicants applying for select meat and seafood processing roles and some current visa holders renewing their AEWV for work covered under the tourism and hospitality and care workforce sector agreements. The exemptions came into effect on 8 September 2024.

Update on work rights for Partners of Student Visa holders

The Government has expanded eligibility for work visas for partners of some students studying towards a Green List occupation. People can now apply for a Partner of Student Work Visa, with open work rights, if their partner is studying a specified level 7 or 8 bachelor’s or bachelor’s (honours) degree that will lead directly to professional registration required for a Green List role. For people granted a Partner of Student Work Visa, any school-aged dependents they have will be considered domestic students for tuition fee purposes and can apply for a Dependent Child Student Visa

English translation of documents required for submitted with Visitor Visa applications


From 17 June 2024, all supporting documents submitted with visitor visa applications to Immigration New Zealand (INZ) must be provided in English. Applicants must provide a certified English translation of any documents in a foreign language. Ensuring that documents for your visitor visa application are provided in English helps Immigration New Zealand process it more efficiently.

Update on Skilled Residence Processing

In order to decide complete applications quickly INZ requires all required information to be included when submitting visa applications. INZ has a standard 10-working-day timeframe for waiting for information. If the information required/requested is not or cannot be provided in the timeframe set, particularly in the case of mandatory lodgement requirements, the application may be declined and the application fee not refunded.

EDUCATION UPDATE

Rise in international students rating New Zealand experience positively

In the 2024 International Student Experience Survey , students lifted their positive rating of their experience to 86 percent, two percent higher than the previous year. In addition, the number of students who rated their experience as "excellent" lifted eight percent to 41 percent.

"International education has made a good start to its recovery with more than 69,000 enrolments in the first full academic year since borders reopened and universities returning to 86% of pre-pandemic numbers," said ENZ Acting Chief Executive Dr Linda Sissons today.
