EPISCOPAL 101

Come learn about the Episcopal Church and St. Martin's Parish. This course meets on Sundays at 9:30 in the Undercroft. This class is designed for persons who wish to be either confirmed or received as members of the Episcopal Church, if you have already received the Sacrament of Confirmation. It is also ideal for people who want to learn more about the Episcopal Church.

MEMORIAL DAY

We want to commemorate all veterans who died serving our country this Memorial Day. If you have a veteran you would like to appear in that Sunday's special prayer list, please email me.

CONFIRMATION AND RECEPTION INTO THE EPISCOPAL CHURCH

St. Martin's will host a Regional Service of Confirmation on Sunday, September 28 at 3 pm. Last fall, a class started for youth and adults interested in being confirmed or received into the Episcopal Church. A new class will begin this spring for those who want to be confirmed or received on September 23.

Confirmation is the sacrament that completes one's initiation into the Church as one makes an adult profession of faith in Jesus Christ. It is an unrepeatable sacrament, as baptism is, so if you were confirmed in a church with apostolic succession (such as the Roman Catholic Church or the Eastern Orthodox Church) you do not need to be "re-confirmed." However, if you would like to officially become a member of the Episcopal Church, you may be received as such by the laying of hands by the bishop.

Please see Father Rob if you have any questions or want to participate in the spring class.

OUTREACH

FOOD BANK VOLUNTEERS NEEDED THIS SATURDAY

3-4 volunteers are needed this Saturday at 9 am to help give out food at the food bank. The address is:

United Reformed Church

100 West Main Street

Somerville, NJ

Please park in the municipal lot, not the church lot.

Any questions? Please contact Anne Marie Verdiramo at 267-231-2574.

The Food Bank is in great need of food items, paper goods, and toiletries for our neighbors in Somerset County. We especially want to focus on personal items and cleaning products, such as toothpaste, feminine products, toilet paper, cleaning supplies, etc. Cash and checks are also greatly appreciated. There’s always a container on the stairs leading up to the choir loft.

If you have any questions, please get in touch with Kathy Shanklin.

SUMMER SCHEDULE

The summer schedule begins on June 1. We will have one Mass at 10 am. There will be no incense on June 1, 8, 15, 22, and August 17. The summer schedule ends the Sunday after Labor Day.

DEATH IN OUR PARISH FAMILY

Our sister in Christ, Betty (Bunny) Wilmore entered the nearer presence of God on April 21. She was a longtime parishioner and faithful member of the altar guild. Please pray for the repose of her soul and her family. There are no details on final arrangements right now.

May Betty's soul rest in peace, and may light perpetual shine upon her. Amen.
