New Resource to Support Dual Enrollment Partnerships | | |
The Greater LA Education Foundation (GLA) is excited to release the “Los Angeles County Toolkit to Equity-Centered Dual Enrollment Partnerships,” a comprehensive collection of tools and resources assembled by experts throughout LA County to support practitioners with enhancing their dual enrollment programs and ensuring equitable student success.
The toolkit, developed in partnership with LACOE and Education Strategy Group and with the support of the College Futures Foundation, builds upon activities and findings from the Los Angeles College Accelerator Network and is guided by the six core elements of an effective dual enrollment partnership defined in Unlocking Potential: A State Policy Roadmap for Equity & Quality in College in High School Programs.
It is our hope that with this resource practitioners are able to strengthen their partnerships and gain a better understanding of how to begin, maintain, and continuously improve high-quality and equitable dual enrollment partnerships and programs. The toolkit was made

Beginning this fall, GLA will offer ongoing learning sessions to support LA County districts and schools with utilizing the toolkit. The learning sessions will feature speakers with insight and expertise in dual enrollment planning, practice, and implementation. Young Innovator Accelerator Final Pitch Competition | |

Earlier this month, over 30 students from three LA-area Best Buy Teen Tech Centers in South LA, Westlake, and the Eastside gathered to pitch their most innovative business ideas and the chance to win scholarships through the Young Innovator Accelerator program.
Young Innovator Accelerator, is an 8-week intensive entrepreneurship course for LA County students to build and pitch their own business ideas. The course culminated on August 10th when students pitched their ideas to a panel of guest judges at the Final Pitch Competition at the Spotify Headquarters in DTLA.
The winning project came from the Bresee Foundation; the team of students presented an app called Strood that maps and connects LA street vendors to hungry patrons! Watch the Final Pitch Competition here!

This summer, GLA collaborated with LACOE and Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger to provide free buses for summer programming in multiple school districts through the Summer Passport Program. Through the partnership, students and staff were able to enjoy two complimentary charter buses for a destination field trip of their choice, including options like the Huntington Library or La Brea Tarpits this summer.

WE ARE LACOE Wellbeing Fest | |

Last week, LACOE hosted its 2nd annual Wellbeing Fest, a special event designed for LACOE staff to relax, recharge, and reconnect with colleagues. Attendees were able to enjoy food, games, activities hosted by LACOE divisions, wellbeing resources, and prizes. The central theme for this year's gathering was "We are LACOE."

LA County Parents on the Cusp of Becoming Teachers
On August 9, LACOE celebrated 41 Head Start parents for participating in LACOE’s Universal Pre-Kindergarten Career Development Initiative. Parent participants now have the education and training to enter classrooms as assistant preschool teachers. Read More

Ancient Art Day for Educators at the Getty Villa Museum
On September 9th from 9:30-2:00pm, Immerse yourself in the ancient Greek and Roman world through a day of hands-on activities, gallery explorations, and connecting with fellow educators. This free event is designed for K–12 educators. Morning refreshments, lunch, and a tote bag for your creations are all provided so you can simply relax and enjoy the day. You'll walk away with inspiration and resources for bringing the ancient world into your classroom, along with ideas about curriculum connections in English Language Arts, social sciences, and visual arts. District Teams Arts Ed Funding Community of Practice
Join the LACOE Arts Ed Funding Community of Practice (CoP) to examine arts ed funding through a lens of Equity and Access. LA County district teams will engage in a virtual launch, three virtual sessions, and receive an exclusive invitation to an in-person celebration at The Getty Center in May 2024.
