Congratulations to the 2023 Equitable Innovation Grant Recipients

In the Fall, GLA hosted its 3rd annual Teaches of the Year (TOY) Equitable Innovation grant cycle. We are excited to award over $60,000 in grants directly to teachers to implement projects and programs of their own design. Thirty-eight winners were selected from 20 different districts, ranging from Antelope Valley to Whittier. Projects fell into categories that include arts integration, social-emotional learning, implementing new content and environmental education.

The TOY Equitable Innovation Grant program invests in educator-led solutions that advance equity, create dynamic learning environments, and promote student and educator wellness. Grants are awarded to educators that demonstrate the dedication, innovation, and creativity that are the hallmarks of the LA County Teachers of the Year Program.

2022 Teaches of the Year Equitable Innovation Grant Recipients

Last month, Maritza Cha and her team of counselors from Alhambra Unified School District officially opened the Matador Calming Room at San Gabriel High School! The team used their grant funds to create a therapeutic room for students to utilize when in need of emotional support. Their goal was to create a space where students could learn about different coping strategies and tools to help them navigate high school. We are so proud of the team of counselors at SGHS! Check it out!
