SCHOOL BUS

August Newsletter

Welcome Back to School!!

FTN is working on collecting numbers from the schools and volunteers arrived at the warehouse early this week to start packing! Call Denise if you would like to join in on the bi-weekly packing! 386-937-3862

We need donations of new or like new items for the SILENT AUCTION that will be held at the 2023 Fundraiser Gala. In years past, the silent auction has raised a large amount to go towards feeding local food-insecure children. We are hoping for things like GIFT CARDS, GIFT BASKETS, ART, JEWELRY, CRAFTS, SPORTS OR CONCERT TICKETS, A BOAT (we are dreaming big!) and ANYTHING ELSE that would be great for a silent auction or even a live auction! Please contact Denise @ 386-937-3862 or Stacey @ 904-477-4356 or you can bring items by Bramlitt's Plumbing & Electric on HWY 19. Thank you all for all you do to support feeding food insecure children every week!

July and August Food Drives

We can't say thank you enough to all the churches groups and people that have been and still are collecting items! Please let us know if we missed listing anyone. Hillcrest Baptist, Beulah Baptist, Dunn's Creek Community, Liberty Church, First Baptist Church Downtown, Christ Independent Methodist, First Presbyterian Church of Palatka, and Grace Community. Our new partners this coming month, HCA Hospital Employees and Haven Attic Resale Store Palatka, are offering a discount if you bring in jelly to donate in September!

This doesn't even include all the individuals that have been collecting on their own!

The items you have collected have already been divided and packed for the schools!

September Jelly Collection!

That's right, we are collecting jelly again! The need for jelly is ongoing, it is a quick and easy way for the kids to feed themselves (along with peanut butter). Plastic jars work best for the children taking them home in their backpacks. Let us know if you would like to use a Feed the Need cart or bin for your group collection! Call Stacey at 904-477-4356 or email [email protected]

Food Insecurity for Households With Children

Households are classified as food insecure if, at some time during the year, they had difficulty providing enough food for all their members because of a lack of resources. In households with children, food insecurity indicates at least one person in the household experienced reductions in dietary quality or variety and, in some cases, disrupted eating patterns and reduced food intake. However, household food insecurity may be experienced differently across household members.

Wanzek Construction held a site wide food drive in July and August for Feed the Need of Putnam County. They collected much needed peanut butter, jelly, juice boxes and fruit cups! We had the pleasure of a visit from the crew that donated and delivered the items right to the FTN warehouse.

The Wanzek and Rice Creek Palatka project is a 75 MW solar project in Putnam County by Origis Energy. It will supply clean power for the FMPA Florida Municipal Solar Project. More info here: https://origisenergy.com/florida-municipal-utilities-announce-second-solar-power-project/

Clay Electric Foundation has given Feed the Need of Putnam County $15,000.00 through their Operation Round Up program. Clay Electric has a strong sense of commUNITY and has helped almost 300 organizations with Operation Round Up. We are so incredibly grateful to be included! These monies will go directly towards the purchase of over-the-weekend food for Putnam County school food insecure students!

Wine Collection Meet and Greet

FTN was honored to have Putnam County School District Superintendent Rick Surrency and Director of PCSD Food Services to speak at the event we held at the Azalea City Brewing Co. to collect bottles of wine for the wine raffle that will be held at the September 30th Roaring 20s Fundraiser! They spoke of their experiences with FTN and the importance of it on the PCSD.

A SPECIAL THANK YOU TO ANDREA AND ROD FOR OPENING SPACE IN THE AZALEA CITY BREWERY AND YOUR HOSPITALITY! YOU ARE PART OF FEEDING 800 FOOD INSECURE CHILDREN EACH WEEK!

We still need bottles of wine valued at $10 or more for the Gala Wine Raffle. Raffle tickets will be available for purchase at the Gala and each person that purchases a ticket will receive a bottle of wine.
