Today's Scripture: Romans 14:7-8
7 "For we don’t live for ourselves or die for ourselves. 8 If we live, it’s to honor the Lord. And if we die, it’s to honor the Lord. So whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord."
We Belong to God!
We all want to belong somewhere - it's a part of what makes us human. We want to have friends, make the team, be accepted. We need the support and comfort of people we belong to when difficult things happen, and the security of knowing that we belong even when we mess up.
When you accept Christ as your Savior, you belong as part of God's family.

"But to all who did receive Him, who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God"

Because of this, there is literally nothing we can do to separate us from God and nothing can stop us from belonging to God and being loved by Him!

These passages from Romans 8 and John 10 say this beautifully.

Romans 8:38-39: "And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord."

John 10:27-30: "My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one can snatch them away from me, for my Father has given them to me, and he is more powerful than anyone else.[a] No one can snatch them from the Father’s hand. The Father and I are one.”

We will all experience suffering and we all sin, but no matter what the Almighty God, Creator of heaven and earth, who willingly gave Himself up for us even though we don't deserve it, will always love us and we will ALWAYS be His!
Reflection Questions
  1. With whom do you belong?
  2. When you go through trials, who do you look to for comfort? Why them?
  3. How should we respond when our faith does not shelter us from hardship in life? Should we take these events to mean God does not care about us? Why or why not?
  4. When have you fallen out of relationship with someone who was important to you in your life? Is something like this even possible with God? Why or why not?
  5. What does it mean for love to be unconditional? What difference does God’s unconditional love make in your life?
