Fred Douglass Community Development Corporation, under the leadership of Willie J. Howard, collaborated with two Jacksonville organizations, People's Church and The Clothes Closet, to finance and distribute baskets during the 2020 Thanksgiving Basket Outreach. This was the third year for Pastor John Atkinson and the congregation of People's Church to team up with Mickey Gear, Clothes Closet Director, to provide Thanksgiving baskets to Jacksonville residents. It was the first year that FDCDC joined the efforts. Seventy-five baskets were prepared. Baskets were prepared and distributed as follows: 1-2 family members; 3-5 family members; and 6 and more family members. All baskets contained fixings for a full Thanksgiving meal...ingredients for dressing, side dishes, rolls, dessert, powdered drink mix, and chicken (1-2 family members) or turkey (3 and up family members), along with a Bible. As recipients arrived to receive their baskets, representatives were there to pray with them and assist getting the baskets to residents' homes in some instances. FDCDC provided funding for 20 baskets and assisted with distribution on Saturday, November 21, 2020.
We want to thank the FDCDC and FDAA members who supported this outreach! We would like to also extend a special thank you to Tracey Wallace and her team members; Sandra Thompson and Virginia Brown for their great work on this project!
