The Prentice Institute collaborates with researchers in Canada and elsewhere to address some of the most difficult challenges of the next generation and beyond. 

Grants Competition

The 2025 WCB-Alberta Research Grants Competition is now open and accepting applications with a deadline of Friday, March 14, 2025. Full details about the competition and application process can be found on WCB-Alberta’s Research Program website.


Researchers specializing in Occupational or Clinical Medicine, Epidemiology, Population Health, Psychology, Rehabilitation Medicine, Sciences, Law, Economics and other Social Sciences are encouraged to apply for funding. Although our focus is on outcomes impacting Albertans, investigators do not need to be physically located in Alberta, nor associated with an Albertan research institution in order to be eligible for funding.

Applications for Summer Research Assistantships Now Open!

The Prentice Institute for Global Population and Economy is seeking University of Lethbridge students for two Research Assistant Streams:


Stream 1: The Prentice Institute Summer Research Assistants

Stream 2: City Scholars Research Assistants


The successful candidates for both streams will work in a full-time, paid capacity from May 1, 2025, until August 31st, 2025. Both research streams are designed to provide students with hands-on experience conducting and supporting research projects.

Apply to be an Intern


Applications are now open for the 2025 Municipal Internship Program which will be offered in 9 different municipalities.


This paid internship position is intended to give post-secondary graduates practical management skills and experience in all aspects of local government. The application period runs from January 13 to February 18. More information about the program, including details about eligibility and the application process, is available on the Municipal Affairs website.


Additionally, the County of Wetaskiwin has a dedicated webpage that prospective students can visit for more insight into the program and what they offer.

The 6th ICCCASU hybrid conference invites submissions of abstracts and full papers on innovative solutions and research findings related to sustainable urbanization.


This year’s theme, “Humanizing Urbanization: Housing, Livelihoods, and Resilient Cities in a Changing World,” emphasizes housing and its pivotal role in fostering equitable and resilient urban futures.

Alberta Innovates Summer Research Studentship for full-time students in an undergraduate degree program who are planning to pursue a supervised summer research program.


George Ellis Scholarship promotes academic research at the undergraduate level.


There are only 2 weeks until the application deadline for the Undergraduate Student Research Awards (USRA), a 16-week program meant to nurture student interest and support the development of their potential for research careers in all disciplines.
