SCHOOLWIDE NEWS & HAPPENINGS
This year marks the 10 year anniversary of the Vicky Hurst Holy Trinity Golf Tournament, our signature fundraising event which benefits Holy Trinity’s athletics program.

For those of you unfamiliar with our tournament and namesake, Vicky Hurst is a Holy Trinity alumna and was a shining star on our Girls Varsity Golf team. She won the state championship in 2007 during her junior year. The following year, she turned pro, qualifying for the Futures Tour while completing high school at Holy Trinity. She was also named Rookie of the Year and Player of the Year and automatically qualified for full playing status on the LPGA Tour. Vicky continues to compete on the Tour today.

Vicky enjoyed her time as a student at Holy Trinity and wanted to give back to school. She helped establish the Vicky Hurst Holy Trinity Golf Tournament in 2011, so that we could continue to develop and graduate strong and capable athletes with the best equipment, coaches and resources available. Money raised from the tournament helps ensure our entire athletics program continues to thrive.

This year’s tournament is scheduled for Sunday, October 2nd at Suntree Country Club. Tee off is at 1:00 pm. We invite you to join us by forming a team to play and/or supporting the event by becoming a sponsor. There are still several levels available. For more information, please visit www.htacademy.org/golf.

Please consider joining us for a fun day of golf and help celebrate a Holy Trinity Tigers tradition of athletic excellence.

UPPER SCHOOL INFORMATION
SCHOOL EMERGENCY RESPONSE PROCEDURES

Earlier today (Friday), the Upper School was placed on a Shelter-in-Place order due to a medical situation involving a student. This came on the heels of a successful lockdown drill just 24 hours prior. As this was a "real," unexpected and fluid situation, which took some time to resolve, we wanted to commend our teachers, staff and students for doing an excellent job at remaining patient and following instructions.

We also wanted to use this opportunity to remind our families of Holy Trinity's emergency response procedures (as noted here), and reemphasize the importance of your cooperation in any emergency situation.

Upon receiving text notification of a school emergency or situation, please do not call or come to the school until you received a follow up text letting you know the situation has resolved and the order has been lifted.

While we understand parents are concerned for their child's welfare in this type of situation, a school administration will contact the parent of the child/children involved.

Thank you for helping us keep our students and staff safe.
FALL LUNCH ORDER CHANGE WINDOW OPENS UNTIL AUG

The lunch order change window for both Upper and Lower school will be open August 17-21. If you need to make any changes to your student's submitted lunch order please email Lia Page for Upper School orders or Irene Cobb for Lower School orders to request that your student's order form be reopened for changes. The form must be resubmitted on or before August 21 to be processed. New orders are also permitted during the change window. Please note that new orders will not be prorated. New orders and changes to existing orders will be available as of Monday, Aug 29.

GEOMETRY STACKS UP THE SMILES
Last week in Geometry Honors, Mrs. Welch's students participated in a teamwork/problem solving cup stacking challenge. BIOLOGY STUDENTS UNCOVER WHERE THE CAMPUS COOTIES HIDE
Mrs. Leslie's Biology Honors class preformed a culture experiment on different surfaces around the Upper School campus this week and the findings were quite eye-opening!
The following areas on HT grew the most bacteria:
  • Wheel of the janitorial cart
  • Buttons on the vending machine
  • Floor in the girls bathroom (high school)
  • Student's cleats
  • Student's locker
The following had zero growth or very minimal growth:
  • Lunchroom & gym door handle
  • Junior High bathroom sink
  • Microwave handle in the Tiger Café
  • Tiger Café counter top
  • Weights in the Tiger Athletic Complex
STUDENTS DIVE INTO MARINE SCIENCE
In the first week of Mrs. DeRosier's new Marine Science class, students explored the Archimedes Principle of Buoyancy, and investigated the correlation between the surface area of a vessel and the amount of mass it was able to support. This week, they were given a sample of sand and water from a local spot, and they compared it to other known samples to determine the origins. Here, we see students comparing physical characteristics under the microscope and testing the salinity of the sample using a hydrometer.

SENIOR SUNRISE
Seniors woke up extra early on Thursday morning -- their first Out of Uniform Day -- to head to the beach and share in the sunrise before school.
COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS REMINDER:
Students should continue to enter their community service hours into the Treedom App. While Chaplain Rutherford will be approving CS hours this year, Mrs. Buist and Mrs. Pedicini are initially assisting with the approval process as he learns Treedom. Did you know Holy Trinity has many campus events that offer high school students an opportunity for earning service hours? Students who find it difficult to be out and about in the community should take advantage of these campus events throughout the school year. Please watch for additional community service hour opportunities through upcoming community partnerships, too.

CS Opportunity: The Haven for Children is a group home in Satellite Beach for foster children. The thrift store- The Lamb Shoppe - is in need of some volunteers on Saturdays and special occasions. Students looking for Bright Future hours, please email Ms. Amber Olesen at thehavendevelopment@gmail.com.

Florida Bright Futures – In July 2022, Governor DeSantis’s office approved student part-time work hours to enhance the community service hour requirement for Bright Futures Scholarship Program. That applies to all Florida high school students working toward Bright Futures Scholarships, including HT students. However, HT still requires 100 hours of high school community service hours as a HT graduation requirement.

As a Christian school that strives educate the mind, body and spirit of our students, Holy Trinity feels serving others is a basic tenet of the Christian faith. HT encourages our school community to strive to serve others as Jesus did. In order to achieve the 100 minimum hour graduation requirement for community service, HT recommends each student earn a minimum of 25 hours per year of high school to achieve this graduation requirement.
