Dear Families,
Before we head out on a much anticipated and well-earned holiday break, I wanted to share some Tiger “tidings” to help us usher in a new year with positivity, hope and optimism for brighter and better days ahead. Please enjoy this “Top 22” for 2022 -- a preview of some of the exciting HT happenings in the coming year.
We are looking forward to celebrating these and so many other milestone events and experiences together with our families and school community.
I hope you will take time over the break for rest, reflection, and reunion. I wish you and yours a wonderful holiday.
Stay safe and we will see you back in 2022!
With boundless gratitude,

Changes Coming to the Upper School ...
A new year and new semester will bring a new schedule for the Upper School. When students return from the holiday break on January 5th, they will have only one chapel time for the entire school (grades 7-12). This move will accompany new assigned seating and a new bell schedule that students learned about during their chapel earlier this week. Students will now leave their belongings in their 1st period class and sit with their 1st period teacher. They will have time to return to class and collect their belongings during the break that will follow chapel.

Because Sometimes All You Need is a Hug
Upper School students have been enjoying time with "The Comfort Cub" -- a specially weighted therapeutic teddy bear designed to provide relief for people experience stress due to traumatic or other overwhelming circumstances. The Cub was donated to HT by the company after one of our teachers ordered one for a family member and happened to mention she worked at a school. This Comfort Cub is adjusting to its new home quite well and already making a difference bringing some added support to our school community during these challenging times. It even had a front row seat at the recent Mental Health Club holiday gathering. For more information about the Comfort Cub, visit www.comfortcub.org.

Kindergarten Codes a Christmas Village
For the month of December, both our Kindergarten classes got busy in creating their own gingerbread Christmas village. They started by decorating and building their personalized houses. They then learned how to code their own Ozobot to move through a maze. Once the village was put together and collaborative coding was completed, students created their own animal floats for their robot to parade around their village.

Checking in on HT Class of 2021 salutatorian and now college freshman, Dante Valdivia, whose college entrance essay is featured on Johns Hopkins' Admissions page.
|
|
JHU's Admissions Committee comments on what made Dante's essay stand out:
"Dante’s essay makes it clear to the reader that he is very curious and has many interests by showing more than telling. He thoughtfully connects the lessons he’s learned from chess to his performance on the soccer field and does a great job of focusing on what he learned as opposed to a blow-by-blow recount of the entire chess match or soccer game. The reader is also able to see that Dante can apply what he learns in one subject to another, which is essential to succeeding academically at Hopkins. Our admissions committee can read this essay and find clear evidence that Dante’s way of thinking would help him thrive in our interdisciplinary curriculum."
