NEED VOLUNTEER HOURS?

This event is also open to students in grades 9-12 interested in volunteering. This is an easy way to earn community service hours!

THERAPY DOGS TO VISIT LOWER SCHOOL

Now here's something to bark about! Next Wednesday, September 14th (during Reading on the Green), the Lower School will welcome some special visitors from Space Coast Therapy Dogs to kick off this month’s wellness theme of “Be the One." Students in grades 2-6 will have an opportunity to pet and interact with the dogs.

Since 1992, the mission of Space Coast Therapy Dogs has been to lift spirits, remove anxiety, provide companionship and eliminate loneliness with the help of incredible volunteers and their companion dogs. Though they are a local organization, their dogs are tested and certified at the national level by the Alliance of Therapy Dogs organization. The organization operates under specific requirements and guidance long established by ATD. Space Coast Therapy Dogs has many different breeds of well-mannered and well-behaved dogs that love meeting people.

Please know that the dogs will be under control and obedient to the handler’s commands. The dogs will be outside most of the time, but may need to enter a classroom/office to cool down due to the Florida heat. If your child has allergies or is afraid of dogs, please have a discussion with your child and advise their homeroom teacher.

Lower School Counselor Mrs. Durrance will inform the students of the visit during chapel and will review expectations such as remaining seated and allowing the dogs to come to the students as we do not want to frighten/overwhelm them. Please reiterate these instructions at home. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Durrance.
