HT IS ALL ABOUT ARTEMIS!
On Monday, August 29th, NASA is scheduled to launch the first Artemis rocket heading to orbit the moon. The launch window begins at 8:33am and could cause traffic delays, especially over the causeways, so please use caution and plan your travel to school accordingly. We will be flexible with students who may be delayed getting to school.

Here's how our campuses will be marking this momentous occasion...

  • The Lower School will be viewing the launch in lieu of chapel on Monday.
  • Upper School teachers have been encouraged to take their classes outside to watch the launch.

Did you know that Tigers Volleyball Coach Pete Klonowski has supported over 100 space missions? He was a Launch Controller in the Cryogenic Propulsion group responsible for loading cryogenic Liquid Hydrogen and Liquid Oxygen propellants on to the launch vehicle. Following the retirement of the Space Shuttle, Coach Pete moved to the Boeing Company to work on the Space Launch System program, again working in the Propulsion directorate performing design analysis and integration for the Main Propulsion System.  He also provided manufacturing support to the Michoud Assembly Facility in New Orleans, LA where the Core Stage of the Artemis 1 rocket was built. He was the Propulsion Operations Lead for the Green Run Testing of the Core Stage at the Stennis Space Center in Mississippi where a full duration (8.5 minute) Hot Fire test of the engines was performed. See photos below...

STUDENT HEALTH REMINDER

A new school year brings new classes, new teachers and reunions with friends after summer break, and with that typically comes increased sniffles, coughs and colds. The below table was created for easy reference when determining if your child is well enough to attend school. Where Kindness Blooms
Shout out to HT parent Mrs. Kim Brown who connected 3rd grade teacher Mrs. Roehl with Mr. Jake Balazac, a friend who runs a plant exchange. Mrs. Roehl wanted a real plant for each child in her class to care for and pass on to next year's class as a legacy. Mr. Balazac donated 20 planted succulents to the class. He told Mrs. Roehl that his mother was a teacher so he was happy to pass along the kindness. The students were so excited to have their very own unique succulent. They wrote personal notes to Mr. Balazac to thank him for his generosity.
BE PART OF THE LUNCH BUNCH!

The Lunch Bunch Book Club is back! There's no need to sign up to join. Students read the assigned book and then bring their lunch to the library on the specified day (specific dates will be posted on Mrs. Houser’s onCampus page by grade level topic). We'll play a Kahoot based on the book and first, second and third place winners will get to choose a prize from the library treasure chest!

Changes for 3rd & 4th Grade Book Clubs

Due to an overwhelming interest in the Wings of Fire Book Club, we are dividing into two groups.

Beginning in September:
  • The Wings of Fire Girls Book Club will meet on even Tuesdays during lunch
  • The Wings of Fire Boys Book Club will meet on odd Tuesdays during lunch
  • The Fourth Grade Dork Diaries Book Club will meet on first and last Thursdays during lunch

US ATTENDANCE POLICY CHANGES

As you know, we’ve made some adjustments to our US attendance policy this year, and as with any change, there have been some questions.

Why did you change the policy in the first place?
In returning to a normal structure and routine this year, it is necessary to reinforce the importance of being in school on a consistent basis. Your child’s attendance is paramount to their education and overall success. Students learn best when they are in the classroom and able to engage in discussions and activities as well as ask questions of their teachers and peers. The revised policy supports this philosophy while still providing grace and flexibility for those times when illness and unforeseen circumstances take precedence.

How can I see detail of absences for my child(ren)?
  • Log into onCampus
  • Select the child for whom you wish to review absences
  • On the “progress” tab, scroll down just a bit until you see a section marked ATTENDANCE SUMMARY
  • You will see anywhere from 0 to 3 boxes. If you see all three, they are labeled “Absent unexcused,” “Absent excused,” and “Tardy.” Those are hard coded into the system and we do NOT have the ability to change the names. 
  • Absent unexcused will include all times you are ABSENT from class for family trips, non-HT athletic events, illnesses, doctor appointments, etc.
  • Absent excused will include all times you are out of class due to SCHOOL RELATED events such as HT athletic events, retreats, performances, pre-planned college visits, etc.
  • If you click on the button below those three boxes marked “View History,” a new tab will open and you can then click “Generate Report.”
  • The report that appears will give you the detail you need as to dates of absences along with comments explaining any doctor notes or other that were provided to the school. 

When I look at my child(ren)’s absence summary, why do I see 7 absences if they were only out for one day?
Our system tracks attendance PER CLASS. Thus, if your child is out for one full school day, he/she will miss all 7 classes, and your summary will show 7 absences (but only 1 per class). Please know that the limit of 9 absences is per class.

What is the difference between “Tardy” and “Absent”?
If students miss 15 minutes or more of a class, they are considered ABSENT from that class period. If they miss less than 15 minutes, they would either be tardy if they arrived late to class or present if they check out of class at the end of the period.

Are you still defining absences as EXCUSED or UNEXCUSED?
No. This year, our attendance policy combines our previously defined excused and unexcused absences together into one category – ABSENT. Students are permitted 9 total absences per class per semester (no matter if you are traveling with family or out sick). Your report card will reflect one number (TOTAL ABSENCES) each quarter. The only absences that will not count into your 9 are those related to school events – HT athletic events, retreats, performances, pre-planned college visits, etc. – and we title those SCHOOL RELATED.

I brought in a doctor’s note, why is the absence still listed as “unexcused”?
All absences unrelated to HT events will show up on your end as UNEXCUSED. Please do not let that confuse you! If you bring in a doctor’s note, that will be inputted into the system which will be visible to both you and the school. So, while a doctor note does not EXCUSE your absence from counting towards the 9, it is noted in our system and will be taken into account should you exceed 9 absences for any reason in one semester.

What happens if my child misses more than 9 days of any class in a single semester?
In the event of excessive absences, our attendance committee will review previous absences and speak or meet with you regarding your child(ren)’s attendance history. Assuming the previous absences have documentation (i.e., medical note), it is highly unlikely that any further consequences will occur. However, should the 9 absences have no documentation, the attendance committee will meet with you and your child(ren) to explain the academic consequences of any future absences.

If my child will be out of school for any reason, what should I do? 
If you child is out sick, please email or call our front office manager, Ms. Hewatt ([email protected]) to let her know your child will be out. She will alert his/her teachers. If you know in advance that your child will be out due to a non-HT athletic event or a family trip, please contact your child’s teachers AND Mrs. Hewatt via email to let them know. Have your child speak with his/her teachers to make arrangements for turning in work early or making up work upon return.

When do I need to provide a note to the school to document any reasons for absences?
If your child(ren) has a medical appointment during school hours, please submit a medical note for documentation purposes within ONE WEEK of the appointment. You can submit it to Nurse Emily ([email protected]) or Ms. Hewatt ([email protected]).
'JUST BE' BREAKOUT SESSIONS ARE A BIG HIT!

On Thursday, students in grades 7-12 enjoyed an extended chapel, but instead of going to chapel, they attended one of 25 Student Wellness Breakout sessions led by faculty and staff. The Upper School will dedicate an extended chapel each month to focus on wellness as part of HT's "Just Be in 22-23" campaign. Here's a snapshot of today's sessions. NHS FALL FOOD DRIVE TO BENEFIT CHILDREN'S HUNGER PROJECT
Holy Trinity’s chapter of the Children’s Hunger Project is working with the National Honor Society to host a food drive from September 12 - 16. Boxes will be placed in the Upper School front office and the library as convenient drop-off locations for non-perishable food donations. High school students will receive one and a half volunteer hours if they donate at least 3 items. However, everyone is welcome and encouraged to participate!
HIGH SCHOOL COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS REMINDER:
Students should continue to enter their community service hours into the Treedom App. While Chaplain Rutherford will be approving CS hours this year, Mrs. Buist and Mrs. Pedicini are initially assisting with the approval process as he learns Treedom. Did you know Holy Trinity has many campus events that offer high school students an opportunity for earning service hours? Students who find it difficult to be out and about in the community should take advantage of these campus events throughout the school year. Please watch for additional community service hour opportunities through upcoming community partnerships, too.

CS Opportunity: The Haven for Children is a group home in Satellite Beach for foster children. The thrift store- The Lamb Shoppe - is in need of some volunteers on Saturdays and special occasions. Students looking for Bright Future hours, please email Ms. Amber Olesen at [email protected].

Florida Bright Futures – In July 2022, Governor DeSantis’s office approved student part-time work hours to enhance the community service hour requirement for Bright Futures Scholarship Program. That applies to all Florida high school students working toward Bright Futures Scholarships, including HT students. However, HT still requires 100 hours of high school community service hours as a HT graduation requirement.

As a Christian school that strives educate the mind, body and spirit of our students, Holy Trinity feels serving others is a basic tenet of the Christian faith. HT encourages our school community to strive to serve others as Jesus did. In order to achieve the 100 minimum hour graduation requirement for community service, HT recommends each student earn a minimum of 25 hours per year of high school to achieve this graduation requirement.

HAVE YOU MADE THE HUDDLE A PART OF YOUR DAY?

Students are loving heading to The Huddle afterschool and spending some time with classmates or just getting a jump on homework!

Parents can avoid sitting in the afternoon carline Mondays through Thursdays by have their child go to The Huddle after school at the Tiger Athletic Complex. There, they can buy snacks, purchase HT merchandise, meet up with a study or project group, study on their own, or gather with friends to play ping pong, cornhole, Foursquare or Spikeball, or to just hang out. Parents can pick up their child at the Tiger Athletic Complex any time between 3:15 and 4pm. Please text your child when you arrive.

LOWER SCHOOL CODE OF CONDUCT SIGNING

On Wednesday, the Lower School held its annual Code of Conduct signing ceremony, a Holy Trinity tradition. All students in fourth grade, new students in grades five and six, and new faculty and staff came forward during the ceremony to take part in the tradition. The Code of Conduct is the foundation of the behavior expectations for all members of the Lower School community. Based on the principles of the Honor Code, the Code of Conduct embraces the values of “honesty, integrity, and commitment to Christian ideals.”

6TH GRADER MCCANN WINS LS SUMMER READING CONTEST

Congratulations to 6th grader Kaylin McCann. Kaylin received a $25 Amazon gift card for winning the Summer Reading contest. (Winner was drawn at random from summer reading log submissions.)
7TH GRADE GETS CREATIVE WITH GROUNDHOGS AND BILL NYE?!?!
Mrs. Christophi's 7th grade English students have spent the last couple of days writing a story as a class using story cubes. These are dice with pictures that they roll and then incorporate the images into their portion of the story! So far we have a story about a group of groundhogs led by Bill Nye who are on a quest in a magic castle to find a crown that will repair a portal to a mysterious land!

CLASS RETREATS

Class Retreats will take place on the following date at the Upper School campus from 7:55am–2:55pm:

  • Freshmen (grade 9): Tuesday, August 30
  • Juniors (grade 11): Wednesday, Sept. 14
  • Sophomores (grade 10): Wednesday, Sept. 21

Parents, as your child’s retreat day approaches, please watch for an email from Mrs. Gunderson containing the opportunity to sign up to provide donations of breakfast food items and/or beverages via SignUp Genius. The students LOVE their fresh Krispy Kremes donuts, Chick-fil-A biscuits, and fruit! A big, heartfelt thank you to all who are able to contribute!!!

Retreat Attire - Student attire for all class retreats is the same as HT spirit wear Fridays except a college t-shirt may replace a HT spirit shirt. The HT uniform requirements for footwear and uniform bottoms still apply for class retreat days. 
COLLEGE REP VISITS

College rep visits have started! The calendar is now visible in SCOIR and visits will be posted in the display case outside the College Office.

Seniors and Juniors interested in attending a rep visit must register and get classroom teacher permission. To register for a college visit, access the SCOIR Student Dashboard and follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Student Dashboard.
  2. Click the visit listing in the Upcoming Visits tile.
  3. On the Visits & Deadlines page, click View to view more details, or click Register to register.

The window to review and approval transcripts is from Aug. 26–Sept. 30. Parents must review, complete and sign this form in onCampus. Watch for a yellow bar on your account.

2nd Teacher Letter of Recommendation (LOR)
The window to request the second Teacher LOR closes September 9th. This ONLY applies to:
  • Seniors NEW to HT
  • Seniors who did not request a teacher LOR in the spring
  • Seniors whose colleges require a second Teacher LOR

College Application Workshops
Seniors may come get one-on-one help with their college applications, SSAR or SPARK. Seniors can get help with essays at these workshops beginning September. Workshops will be offered one day a until Fall Break:

If you did NOT attend the Senior Parent meeting on Back-to-School Night, please send your Senior to the College Office to pick up his/her Jostens packet. The packet is needed to order graduation regalia for your Senior. 
SAT/ACT TESTING INFORMATION

Seniors who have not tested yet or who want to test for a second time, should sign up for a test this fall. Please note these SAT and ACT test dates for future reference.

All students preparing for the fall SATs should access their College Board account, which should be linked with Khan Academy account and begin personalized test prep practice. Haven’t linked your two accounts yet?

SIGN UP FOR JUNIOR HIGH DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

REMINDER: Holy Trinity 7th and 8th graders still have an opportunity to participate in a new athletics development program, every Monday and Wednesday, from 5:15-6:15pm, for 8 weeks with Coach Vinny, HT's Director of Athletic Performance. The cost of the program is $200 per student-athlete.

  • Program will run until October 5th      
  • Designed to help prepare youth for high school sports participation
  • Program has 3 major components:
  1. Weight Room: about learning key fundamental movement properties to enhance physical literacy
  2. Field/Court: Athletes will learn special awareness and how control their momentum and increase their performance
  3. Mind/Body/Spirit: Athletes will be challenged through individual competition as well as understand the importance of many vital aspects of health and nutrition. Individual competition winner will win a $25 Gift card to Nike, as well as, a mystery prize
