There is only one Choice

Donate a book

As we develop our Choice library, we are looking at ways to add reading material for our students.

We suggest that parents donate a book (or two) on the occasion of their child's birthday. This would be a perfect way to give back and add to the learning resources of the school.

And these books will be used for many years to come and read by many of our students. Please contact Mr. Bolina if you would like to donate books or any other resources.

What better way to celebrate your child's birthday, than to donate a book to the Choice School library!

Mr. Rodrigues finds inspiration in his deep love for education, his joy in witnessing growth, and his commitment to making a meaningful impact on students. As an educator, he is driven by the opportunity to foster a positive and lasting influence on his students, instilling in them a sense of responsibility and self-sufficiency.

Originally majoring in Clinical Psychology and Social Services, Mr. Rodrigues aspires to complete his master's degree in Canada. Hailing from Johannesburg, South Africa, he hopes of returning to visit his family, with his mother and older sister still residing there. Recently relocating to Vancouver, British Columbia in March 2023, he tied the knot in November of the same year.

During his leisure time, Mr. Rodrigues enjoys outdoor activities with his wife and savors a delightful cappuccino on weekends. His typical weekend involves exploring the beauty of British Columbia, enjoying a pizza, and watching a good movie in the evening. Additionally, he plays in touch rugby team at the local rugby club in his area.

Presently, Mr. Rodrigues is currently teaching Pine and Fir students Mathematics and Science.

Winterfest - Choice School musical masterpiece

This is the most magical part of the year and what better way to celebrate and get into the holiday spirit than to attend a winterfest musical at Choice School. Our winterfest brings together all our community as we celebrate the season with multiple performances from all our students.

The winterfest was well attended with standing room only as our students sang seasonal songs that commemorate the holiday season. There was also piano performance by one of our grade 7 students, Hansen. All the performances were rehearsed under the supervision and direction of our music teacher, Mr. Chan.

At the end of the student performances, there was a surprise performance by a Chinese artist using the zither - this is a fascinating and unique stringed instrument with a rich history that dates back to ancient times. Known for its distinctive sound and polyphony, this versatile instrument has evolved over time, featuring various forms and styles.

What an amazing way to finish the first term!

New tablets for Oak and Cedar

Currently, we are in the process of upgrading many aspects of technology at Choice School. Our parents will be delighted to hear that we have purchased brand new Lenovo tablets for our Oak and Cedar classes.

These tablets are 11.5" and come with a host of software that are customised for students at this age. Students will be able to use these early in the new year. As students will be busy working on their science projects, these tablets will come in very handy.

Toy Drive

The Choice School Toy Drive was an incredible success! As a school, we were able to collect 68 toys for families in our community. Thank you to all those who participated by bringing in a toy or more to donate to the Richmond Cares, Richmond Gives organization (RCRG).

On December 7th, students from Cedar Class traveled to Lansdowne Mall to drop off the toys in person. An employee of RCRG showed their appreciation by giving the students a tour of their operation and the Toy Room, where families can "shop" for toys. They informed us that the need for aid has increased by 40% from last year and they have been very busy working to support families during this time of year. Back at school, Cedar students reflected on their experience by showing gratitude for what we have and understanding the importance of helping those less fortunate.

We are so thankful to our wonderful Choice community for supporting our cause and giving back to our community.

Class terrariums

Within Pine Class, the implementation of a continuous assessment project revolving around the creation of terrariums and the cultivation of plants serves as an enriching and educational endeavor.

This hands-on experience offers students an opportunity to delve into the realms of biology and ecology, with each learner becoming an active participant in the scientific process. As the class engages in the meticulous assembly of their miniature ecosystems, students gain practical insights into the intricate dynamics governing plant life. Considerations such as soil composition, sunlight exposure, and water management take center stage, providing a tangible application of theoretical knowledge.

The project not only fosters critical thinking skills as students troubleshoot challenges but also encourages problem-solving in the context of real-world scenarios. The resulting terrariums serve as tangible representations of the students' scientific acumen and understanding of environmental principles. By observing the growth and development of their planted specimens, Pine Class not only reinforces academic concepts but also cultivates a profound appreciation for sustainable practices and ecological interconnectedness. The terrarium project thus serves as a multifaceted learning experience, weaving together theoretical understanding, practical application, and a deeper connection to the natural world.

Choice School

Band at Lansdowne Mall

Our Pine and Fir class students played festive music at Lansdowne Mall On December 12 . For many students, this was the first time that an opportunity arose to play in front of a public audience.

There was a mixture of performances including vocals by Francis and Kingsley, a an awesome drum beat by Pine class and some soul inspiring piano by Hanson.

Our band played beautifully and didn't miss a single beat. Many of the shoppers in the mall took a moment to stand and hear the band play. And some took the opportunity to inquire about our school. It was an awesome performance and our students were delighted to be able to represent our school in a such a positive way.

Many thanks to the parents that came and supported us. And many, many thanks to Mr. Chan who spent many hours rehearsing the music with our students.

Hot Lunch program

Choice School now offers a hot lunch program once a month to all enrolled students. The hot lunch offered varies each month. So far, our students have enjoyed the following:

October - Pizza Hut

November - Pita Pit

December - Indian curry

We also have a food committee to supervise our lunch program. We work together as a team to make sure our students have a nutritious lunch.

We are very grateful to our hot lunch committee members Ms. Lee and Mrs. V for helping put this together. In addition, a number of parents are always at hand to help and distribute the hot lunches.

What foods will be offered in January?
