All are Welcome...and we mean ALL.

As people of Grace, made one in the waters of baptism, we are strengthened by diversity. We are a community that is committed to racial equity and welcomes people of every ability, age, citizenship status, ethnicity, gender identity and expression, language, life circumstance, marital status, political perspective, race, sexual orientation, and creed.

Whether you are a believer, doubter, or seeker, or something in between,

you are welcomed and valued here. We celebrate God’s unconditional love and respond joyfully to all of God’s diverse people present here.

Growth in Knowing:

Deepening Our Understanding And Connection

Noticing Our Demographics and Spiritual Needs

Preparing for Conversation with the Transition Team

Dear friends,

This week’s reflection is meant to gently warm you up for your upcoming conversation with the Transition Team. Think of it as settling into the chair with curiosity not coldness.

Before we envision the kind of pastoral leadership our church needs, we must first understand both our internal and external contexts. These insights will shape the Ministry Site Profile, which the Transition Team will prepare. The Call Committee will then use it to discern which pastoral candidates bring the gifts and leadership best suited to serve this congregation within its evolving contexts.

One of my favorite seminary professors, Dr. David Rhoads, would always remind us as we engaged in scripture: “Pay attention to context. Because context shapes meaning.”

Context Matters

  • Internal context: Who is part of our congregation? What spiritual needs, support, and longings are present?
  • External context: Who lives in our neighborhood? What stories, needs, and opportunities surround us?

Few Examples From the Mukilteo Census Reporter:

  • Median age: 44.3 years
  • Largest minority group: Asian (21.5%)
  • Veterans: 7.8%
  • Poverty rate: 5.8%
  • Mobility (recent movers): 10.5%

These numbers aren’t just statistics. They’re signals. They point to potential areas of care, connection, and ministry. What if the Spirit of God is already at work in our neighborhood, planting seeds of hope, stirring questions, opening hearts just waiting for us to notice?

If we truly want to serve our community, we must begin by noticing it and naming it.

From Assumption to Attention: Before we look outward, let’s notice the stories we carry within.

Step 1: Reflect on Our Assumptions

  • What do we assume about our neighborhood?
  • Who do we think lives here, and what might we be missing?
  • Where do we feel most connected or disconnected?

Step 2: Practice Noticing

  • Take a walk or drive with fresh eyes
  • Visit a local café, park, or library and observe
  • Ask: Who’s here? What’s happening? What feels joyful, heavy, or sacred?

Begin with simple prompts:

  • I saw…
  • I heard…
  • I wondered…

As we reach in and out of this community, let’s consider our posture: Am I inviting? Am I trusting? Am I grateful for what God is doing and leading me to notice?

Prayer for the Week

May awe, reverence, and deep gratitude radiate through us by grace through faith as we meet others. May we remember that our faith in what God is doing is enriched by hearing and seeing both our internal and external contexts. And may that faith shine through as we, apostles of Jesus, do the church and be the church in our wider community.

What’s Coming Next in Grace Notes

Each week will invite deeper reflection and shared discernment. Here’s a preview:

  • 5th week of Oct: Reimagining ministry leadership—staffing, lay leadership, and shared responsibility
  • 1st week of Nov: Listening for the Spirit—what is God speaking to us now?
  • 2nd week of Nov: Faithful stewardship—how do we prioritize and use our resources well?

With Gratitude and Wonder,

Interim Pastor Jade Yi

Parent Resources:

Support, Tools, and Shared Wisdom

Parenting Class with Love & Logic

3rd Sunday of Each month at 11 am in Meeting Room

Starts October 19

When kids hit their teen years, parenting takes on a whole new dimension. Along with that, kids are frequently dealing with the challenges of social media and other technologies that we didn't have as kids ourselves. Still, we want them ready for their adult lives ahead while empowering them to make positive decisions and learning from their mistakes. We are offering a parenting class and support group to help gain new perspectives and strategies as parents.

We meet the 3rd Sunday of every month at 11am in the Meeting Room. The class is taught by Karl Olson, church member, Love and Logic trainer, educator, and parent. If you have any questions please e-mail Karl at karltolson@gmail.com

While parenting can feel lonely, this is a chance to come together to celebrate and collaborate.

The women in the study come from a variety of church experiences although most attend Pointe of Grace. What this study does is deepen faith and friendship as we go out to do what we learn. Please join us! If you have any questions, contact Evelyn at evlnseymour@gmail.com.

“United in Faith: A Call to Action” is an ecumenical gathering of progressive people of faith in south Snohomish county and north King county, and beyond, who unite to stand together against tyranny and injustice. Organizer of the event is the Edmonds United Methodist Church Political Action group.

We gather in Edmonds as part of a growing national and global movement of faithful resistance—standing in solidarity to protect the integrity of our democracy, the depth of our values, and the soul of our shared future.

By coming together, we embolden our neighbors, support our civic institutions, and bear witness to a God of justice and love.

Grace Notes Deadline

Announcements for the Grace Notes must be received by 10:00 am on Wednesday.

If articles are not received before the deadline, they will be added to the next week's edition.

We acknowledge

that our service is being held on the original and ancestral homelands of the Salish Coastal peoples, and we give thanks for their presence here since time of old. We remember and celebrate the Indigenous peoples and tribal nations who were the first to love, pray, grow, celebrate, cry, drum, and sing upon these lands. We also wish to recognize and honor all our Indigenous siblings who have and continue to call this land their home.

May all of us work towards learning and growing, and sharing in the journey towards truth and healing – especially as we work to fulfill our commitments as stated in "A Declaration of the ELCA to American Indian and Alaska Native People” as well as the 2022 Resolution that was passed by the Northwest Washington Synod Council to renew, restore, continue and grow in relationship with the Indigenous peoples who are our neighbors.
