The Legislature convened in Tallahassee on November 22nd to organize for the upcoming session in March. New members were sworn in and the leadership for each party was selected. Legislative committees will begin meeting in the intervening weeks leading to March. Representative Maney had the following to say: “Leadership is half the battle. I am exceptionally confident in the leadership we’ve installed in the Florida House and Senate today, and the grit they continue to demonstrate in the defense of conservative Florida values. Governor DeSantis Lauds Purple Star Campuses Bill On November 15th, Governor DeSantis made a surprise visit to Fort Walton Beach High School to introduce House Bill 429 - Purple Star Campuses, a bill that Representative Maney guided through the Florida House and Governor DeSantis eventually signed into law. This new law designates Florida schools that support military families and their children with the many difficulties they face moving from school to school. 114 schools around the state received the designation, with 35 of those schools right here, in Okaloosa County. CareerSource Okaloosa Walton On November 9th, CareerSource Okaloosa Walton held its tenth annual Paychecks for Patriots event. Over 8,000 veterans and military family members have been hired through the past iterations of the event. Representative Maney was honored to help kick off this year's edition by speaking on the importance of hiring veterans and the positive characteristics they bring to a workplace. Midbay Bridge Rotary A big "thank you" to the Midbay Bridge Rotary Club for inviting Representative Maney to come speak about his first term in office and what he intends to accomplish moving forward. The club made a $50 donation in Representative Maney's name to go towards Rotary International's Eradication of Polio initiative.

Veteran's Day Events

Ruckel Middle School - Niceville

Representative Maney can trace military service members in his family all the way back to the French & Indian War in the mid-1700's. He served in the U.S. Army Reserve and deployed overseas four times; sustaining life threatening injuries in Afghanistan during the last of those deployments. Because of these reasons and many more, Veteran's Day holds a special place in Representative Maney's heart. At the reception he, and dozens of other servicemembers and veterans, received at Ruckel Middle School was spectacular. After breakfast and a performance by the Ruckel Choir, every student came out to cheer as the service members and veterans made their way to the gym. Representative Maney spoke about service and his experiences serving in the military, sprinkling in amusing anecdotes, trivia, and some life advice for the students. Many of the students knew the answers to several of his historical trivia questions, demonstrating the quality of the education at Ruckel Middle. Thank you, Ruckel Middle School and principal Joe Jannazo, for the fantastic reception and ceremony.

Casey Park - Freeport

Though Freeport is not part of Representative Maney's district, the Panhandle Delegation firmly believes that our region needs to stick together in the face of the state's larger population centers. In that spirit, Representative Maney was honored to speak at Freeport's Veteran's Day Ceremony held at Casey Park.  A big "thank you" goes out to the Freeport officials who put on a flawless ceremony, highlighted by a performance from the Freeport Elementary choir: The Spophisticats! If you have the opportunity to visit Casey Park, take it! There are multiple monuments recognizing veterans and our different military branches in the immaculately kept park.
