As we step into February, we want to take a moment to reflect on our January Public Meeting and share a few important updates with our WAO community.
In January, we gathered publicly to review our goals, discuss the year ahead, and vote in our new Marketing Officer, Jeni Hardin.
One exciting discussion included talking with the Plan Commission Chair to explore recommending to the City of Oglesby Council the formation of a 125th Celebration Committee to begin planning for Oglesby’s milestone celebration in 2027. Turning 125 is not just a number, it is an opportunity to honor our history, celebrate our progress, and create events that bring together residents, businesses, schools, and civic organizations. The groundwork for something this meaningful takes time, and we believe starting early allows it to be done right.
I also want to share something personal and meaningful with you. 2026 will be my final year serving as President of We Are Oglesby, NFP. At the end of this term, I will be resigning from the board. This decision has not been made lightly. WAO has been a passion project, a labor of love, and one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. Together, we have built something real and sustainable. We created structure where there was once just an idea. We established processes, strengthened relationships, launched events, supported businesses, secured funding, and laid strong foundational work that allows this organization to thrive well beyond any one individual. That is exactly the goal.
True community organizations are built on shared vision, collaboration, and the willingness to pass the baton. By creating systems and stability, we have positioned WAO to welcome new board members, new voices, and new ideas. That diversity of thought and leadership is what will continue moving WAO forward in powerful ways.
Personally, this next chapter will allow me to focus on new career opportunities, deeper personal commitments, and continued civic involvement in other capacities. Growth often requires transition. Leadership also means knowing when to step aside and make room for what comes next.
I am incredibly proud of what we have accomplished together. More importantly, I am confident in where WAO is headed. The groundwork is done. The momentum is strong. The future is bright. I look forward to all that 2026 brings!
If you have ever considered getting involved, this is your invitation. Fresh energy, new perspectives, and engaged members are what will carry this organization into its next era.
Thank you for believing in this mission. Thank you for supporting local. Thank you for building something that will last. The best is still ahead.
