Volume 3 / December 2024

   LAST MONTH…

November was good and ended cold!

We spent the month putting up hundreds of ornaments, decorations, and thousands of lights. If we connected all the extension cords it would stretch out 6 miles.

Recipe of the month:

Rice Cake with Dulce de Leche and Dark Chocolate

Ingredients

-4 plain unsalted rice cakes

-1/2 cup store-bought dulce de leche

-1/4 teaspoon flaky sea salt, plus more for garnish

-1/2 cup dark chocolate chips

-1 tablespoon coconut oil (any kind)

Instructions

-Line a small baking sheet with parchment or wax paper. Spread about 2 tablespoons dulce de leche on each rice cake, leaving a 1/4-inch border around the outer edges. Place them on the baking sheet and sprinkle each with a tiny pinch of salt.

-Add the chocolate chips and coconut oil to a small microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 30-second increments, stirring after each time, until fully melted.

-Dip each rice cake (only the side with the dulce de leche) in the melted chocolate. Return them onto the baking sheet and sprinkle with more salt, if you’d like.

-Pop the rice cakes in the freezer for about 10 minutes, until the chocolate hardens.

Ready to eat!

Enjoy!

Hello Friends,

We are trying something new this time for the Bluegrass and Country Music Festival! We will have the first 4 rows near the stage available on I-Tickets to be reserved for the full 3 days and that will be your assigned seat for the weekend. That reserved price will cover your tickets and the seat. That additional charge for those seats will be collected and applied to next year's bands! We are trying this arrangement with the intent to grow the show for your entertainment!

If you're not interested in the assigned seats, that is no problem at all; the remaining seating will be the same as before. First come first served and if you get up, someone can sit there until you return, then you kindly ask them to move.

I-Tickets Link to choose your seat near the stage: HERE

I-Tickets Phone number to assist you in getting the assigned seat near the stage: 614-414-6899

Please call or email if you have any questions!

What to expect this month

We have started our Country Christmas Train last weekend and it will continue until after Christmas.

Country Christmas Train

Dec. 1, Dec. 6 – 8; 13 –15, 18- 23, Dec. 26 – 28

The Christmas Train was started in 2008 when The late Brown Loflin had a dream to put lights on the train and add a movie about the true meaning of Christmas. He felt it was his way to share with the community about Jesus and offer a place loved ones can create memories with their families.

When you arrive at the Denton FarmPark for the Country Christmas Train you walk down Candy Cane Lane to the train station. You may visit Santa at the train depot to have professional photos made. Then board the Handy Dandy Railroad to take a ride around our 1.5 mile track to view the beautiful Christmas lights and a short movie about the TRUE meaning of Christmas.

Along the ride you will also see a nativity scene, dedication to the military, and even dancing elves for the children. After the train ride, stop by the Gingerbread House to visit Laramie's Cakery for fresh baked goods and gingerbread cookies being made right in front of you. Continue down the lighted pathway to see the Grist Mill, a petting zoo, The General Store, Radio Museum, Church, Shoe Shop, Gas Station, Myers Car Shop, Doll Museum, and Coke Museum. Weather permitting, rides for the kids are available to enjoy like a Ferris wheel, swinging tubs, and more.

Don't forget to hop on the free tram ride, beside the Doll Museum, for a ride to the Reid Plantation. At the plantation, you will see what life was like in the 1800s. Visit the black smith shop, and the plantation house where you will find candle making. When you're done, ride the tram back to modern times and follow the path to the craft barn. Finish your night out with some good food and crafts inside before you head back home!

* Gates open @ 4:30, ticket sales END at 8:30 pm.

The park closes 30 minutes after the last train ride.

Do you know how to pray?

Matthew 6: 6-13

6 But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.

7  And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words. 8 “Therefore do not be like them. For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him.

9 In this manner, therefore, pray:

Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name.

10 Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven.

11 Give us this day our daily bread.

12 And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors.

13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil:

For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever.

Amen.

How we celebrate Christmas in South Africa:

By: Vanessa von Mollendorf

  • Christmas trees are put up and decorated by the first of December. Spruce trees are not indigenous to South Africa, which means most homes have synthetic ones. School aged children are usually tasked to make unique decorations for their trees.

  • Our homes are decorated with lights, but nowhere near as extravagantly as in other countries.

  • Church services are extremely important as we are, by and large Christians. Families either attend midnight or early Christmas morning services.

  • Children wait for Sinterklaas or Kersvader, the South African version of Santa, on Christmas Eve. Presents are opened on Christmas morning.

  • Our traditional Christmas meal includes roast meats, vegetables, and puddings. A popular dish is gammon, a sliced piece of pork from the pigs hind leg, and for dessert we have malva pudding which contains apricot jam and has a spongy caramelized texture. It is normally served with cream or custard.

  •  Weather permitting, some South Africans braai on Christmas day. This is a barbecue which is fired up, meat is grilled and people enjoy their meal outdoors.

  • A playful tradition where crackers are pulled apart to reveal paper crowns, jokes, and small gifts is usually engaged in after overindulging in all the delicacies which the women have prepared.

  • South Africa's warm weather and diverse landscape makes it ideal for outdoor activities like beach visits, hiking, and playing sports.

  • We have a lot of Christmas markets which pop up across the country, selling handcrafted goods, local delicacies, and holiday gifts.

  • The Santa Shoebox Project is a beloved charity tradition where people share the joy of giving. Gifts are distributed to underprivileged children in South Africa and Namibia.

From a sunny South Africa, here’s wishing you and yours a blessed Christmas!
