This Years Jeep Ride will be raising money for South Davidson Fire Department!

The South Davidson Fire Department, located in southern Davidson County, was founded and established in 1973 by several local residents. The small rural agency serves our community with approximately 35 volunteer firefighters and emergency medical responders.

Through the years, the department has been blessed with dedicated community members that work hard, dedicating their time to save and help others during their time of need. In addition to the agency serving the community with emergency responses, the South Davidson Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary works diligently to raise money for the South Davidson Fire Department Gifts for Kids Program.

Over the past five years this Christmas drive has helped several families in the community who were struggling during the holiday season. Throughout the years, South Davidson Fire Department has willingly volunteered to serve by being on hand to provide medical assistance during several events at the Denton Farmpark, including being an important resource for the annual Charity Tractor Ride. Ronnie Cook, Fire Chief of 12 years, has always had a love for the community and the Denton FarmPark. For many years, Ronnie, along with several other volunteers with the department, have worked at the Denton FarmPark as seasonal employees, and show continued support by attending other events regularly.

South Davidson Fire Department is humbled and grateful to be chosen as this year’s recipient for the Jeeps on the Farm Charity Ride! The donations received will go toward purchasing items and equipment that provides better and further assistance for the South Davidson community.

The South Davidson Fire Department extends thanks from the bottom of their hearts.

A short writing from our friend in South Africa

August

Vanessa von Mollendorf

August has sneaked up on us. Quiet as a mouse, it has made its presence known by blowing gently

across our skins. But this is usually only the harbinger of what is to come. Later in the month it will huff and puff and blow your house down. Which led me to thinking how all of us grow up with

stories. As infants and toddlers, we were read to by our parents. Nursery rhymes, songs and bedtime

stories were a daily activity in our house. To this day, most of it lives in my memory and I believe this was where my love of writing began.

What did stories teach me though, except for how they should be told? They helped me to

understand others, to feel and show empathy. To teach me about life in general and to learn a new skill. When I learned to read however, it opened up a world of new possibilities. I could travel the world from the comfort of my bed. Respect for other cultures, races and religions grew alongside my love for adventure.

Who amongst us has not delved into the worlds which Stephen King and Neil Gaiman created from the wealth of their imagination? At times my bed became a ship, leaving port on a daring voyage to discover new islands, fauna and flora; a battleship which aliens were boarding or a dragon upon whose back I would fly over fantastical lands. I rubbed elbows with dwarves and elves and laughed out loud as Terry Pratchett wove his humour into stories about witches who ride upon a disc that sits on the back of four elephants. I drank an Intergalactic gargle blaster with Douglas Adams and never forgot to bring my towel. Truth be told, this is probably also why my imagination runs rampart every day of my life and I cannot help but type the words which blow through my head like the August wind.

Stories have made me who I am, they have always breathed life into an otherwise quite mundane existence. Someday, quite soon I hope, one of my books will stand proudly upon a bookstore’s shelf and who knows maybe you will be the one who picks it up and intrigued by the cover, ventures into the word I have created.

Ezekiel 20:49

‘Then I said, Ah Lord! They say of me, Is he not a maker of stories?’

Do you know how to pray?

Matthew 6: 6-13

6 But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.

7  And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words. 8 “Therefore do not be like them. For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him.

9 In this manner, therefore, pray:

Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name.

10 Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven.

11 Give us this day our daily bread.

12 And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors.

13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil:

For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever.

Amen.
