Carolina Antique Pickers Festival was held September 14-16th!

We had a good turnout and saw some amazing finds!!

We hope everyone has a Spooktacular October!

Recipe of the month:

MUMMY

Oreo Balls

Ingredients

Oreos: Vanilla/golden Oreos or Regular chocolate Oreos

Cream cheese: Soften to room temperature before using so the center is lump-free and creamy.

White Chocolate Candy Melts: You can also use candy melts or dipping wafers. Avoid regular white chocolate chips for best results.

Candy eyes: A fun addition that turn these white chocolate Oreo balls into Mummy Oreo Balls!

Instructions

Make the Oreo balls. Pulse the cookies in a food processor until they are a fine crumb. Then combine with the cream cheese. Use a cookie scoop to form 1-inch balls. Place in the freezer for 30 minutes to set.

Melt the chocolate. Melt according to package instructions.

Assemble the mummy oreo balls. Dip each Oreo truffle into white chocolate, turning to coat. Tap any excess off. Transfer to baking sheet. Drizzle remaining chocolate over top of balls and stick two eyes onto the Oreo truffles.

Chill and enjoy. Place in the fridge for 20 minutes or so to set, then enjoy!

Back to Fall

By: Christina Frost

This is my one year anniversary writing for Denton FarmPark.

We’ve made it all the way back around to my favorite time of year, and I couldn’t be happier it’s arrived. It’s still cooling off a bit, but the crisp fall leaves, apple-spiced donuts, and pumpkins galore are rolling in as we speak…

Lately, I have begun to delve into the mysterious and tantalizing world of coffee! I bought up a bunch of fall coffee syrups and my goal is to make a latte at home I would be proud to purchase at a coffee shop. I have a ways to go, but it’s been fascinating learning everything about the subject.

Fall is a great time of year to learn a fun new skill.

Take your pick! There’s baking, pumpkin carving, wreath making…the autumn sky is the limit. Oftentimes when the weather becomes less inviting outdoors, it gives us a chance to slow down, kick back, and learn everything we might want to learn about a topic.

Not only does learning something new engage our brains in the present, it’s something we can continue to add to our seasonal traditions every year they arrive.

Next year, you’ll be able to create all your Halloween party invitations using calligraphy, or you can brew up a batch of Oktoberfest beer year after year which your neighbors will be happy to swing by and help you drink.

And of course, don’t get discouraged if you don’t master your new skill on the first go. I’m not always the best at believing I can achieve something worthwhile if it’s not perfect the first time. But that’s why I’ve enjoyed learning about the process of making coffee. If it’s not a great cup of coffee, oh well. I’ll make another tomorrow and it will be better. So far I’ve impressed my husband and parents with my new-found coffee skills and that’s because I’ve been practicing!

However, the best part about all of this is it’s opened doors to connect with friends and strangers alike. Everyone who loves coffee or has an interest in it’s creation has been a point of connection for me along the way. I’ve learned so much from others already too.

Who knows what skill you might pick up this fall which could lead you into interesting or enriching spaces and relationships?

You’d be surprised how many niche groups of people are passionate about the same thing you are. You might discover a new festival or travel destination which could open up a future road for you to travel down.

Here’s some skill or hobby ideas to start: Gardening, wine or beer making, painting, sewing/crochet/cross stitch, photography, pottery, learning a language, glass blowing, candle making, poetry, wood working, birding, chess, dancing, anything DIY basically, or a local volunteer opportunity…just to name a few.

And if you’re thinking, what if this hobby doesn’t last or it can’t make any money? Remember, the point here is to enjoy and enrich our lives. Anytime we expose ourselves to something new, our minds expand and never go back to the way they were before. Instead of closing us off, it keeps us young and helps us to stay open and curious.

I hope you have a wonderful time finding something engaging to dive into this fall. I wish I could send you all a cup of my coffee in the mail to celebrate my one year anniversary writing for Denton FarmPark.

What did the mama cow say to the baby cow?

It’s pasture bedtime.
