Citizens have a responsibility to understand their society and participate in its political process. Let’s set aside specific partisan issues and attempt to understand our current condition, what divides us and what could reengage us. Let’s discuss the core chapters of a half dozen key books in five months.

Our challenges are great, but our understanding of people, communities and politics is better than ever. Americans have much in common. There are common sense steps that can improve our political process and produce better results for all of us.

Used books will cost $10 each.

  • Our Kids: The American Dream in Crisis, Robert D. Putnam, 2015
  • Liberalism and Its Discontents, Francis Fukuyama, 2022
  • Why We’re Polarized, Ezra Klein, 2021
  • The Righteous Mind: Why Good People are Divided by Politics and Religion, Jonathan Haidt, 2013
  • The Soul of America: The Battle for Our Better Angels, Jon Meacham, 2018
  • The Road to Character, David Brooks, 2015

Discussion leader Tom Kapostasy is a retired finance and operations manager. He has taught college accounting and economics courses, a variety of corporate management, leadership and operations seminars in addition to Christian Heritage classes at OPPC. [email protected].

VBS Thank You!

On behalf of the Children’s Ministry team, I wanted to thank all the volunteers who gave of their time and talents to create such a faith-filled, loving and joyful environment for all our participants. Thanks, too, to all the adults who transported children daily and for those who prayed for us. And thanks to all who brought donations for Outreach; they were so grateful for the supplies we provided the homeless youth and young adults!

PYOCA Fan the Flame Day of Giving

Pyoca Camp and Retreat Center will host its inaugural Fan the Flame Day of Giving on Wednesday June 21. For over 70 years, Pyoca has kept the fire of faith burning. Generations of children, youth, and adults have come to camp to explore, grow, rest, and play. That fire didn’t happen by accident. God's faithfulness has guided us. Beautiful servants, staff and volunteers, have blessed us. We invite you to make a gift to Fan the Flame at Pyoca! Join us by supporting the Pyoca Day of Giving on Wednesday June 21: together we can keep the fires burning.

Be sure to follow Pyoca social media for more information leading up to the day and on June 21. Will you support Pyoca on its first Day of Giving by making a gift in support of this very important ministry? Visit Pyoca.org on June 21 to make your gift or make your gift today.
