Aloha Holy Innocents family and friends,

We have much news to share with you. As of January 1, 2025, Holy Innocents became a Preaching Station under the administrative authority of Trinity By-the-Sea Episcopal Church in Kihei. The Bishop had recommended this as a way to lessen the burden of functioning as a mission with so few parishioners. We will still be Holy Innocents and continue to have our 8:00 a.m. service at our host church here in West Maui. We will benefit in many ways, including having supply priests available for pastoral care and celebration of the Eucharist. We have three of our members on the (now combined) Bishop’s Committee, and we had our first joint annual meeting a few weeks ago. TBTS made us feel very welcomed, and we look forward to our collaboration. The goal is for HI to return to mission status at some point in the future.

Speaking of future, this is what the church property looks like now. All traces of the fire have been removed:

In December, the church received a $20,000 donation from Archie Kalepa’s Lele Aloha Foundation. This wonderful foundation made donations to several Lahaina places of worship to help with rebuilding. Pictured is Kalani Holokai with Archie and members of the foundation presenting the check to us by our sign.

We continue to wait on the County for guidance regarding rebuilding in the historic district as well as on the ocean side of Front Street.

One of our congregants, Brenda Lewis, was ordained as a deacon on January 25, 2025, at Calvary Episcopal Cathedral in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Joining her in the photo shown is Fr. Bill Albinger who served as our priest from 2005-2014, and Diane Delos Reyes, who made the trip over. We congratulate Deacon Brenda and send prayers that her ministry may be blessed.

From January through March 9, the Rev. Sanford Johnson is on island and volunteers his time to celebrate Holy Eucharist with us. His wife, Bonnie, also helps on Sundays, so we are blessed to have both of them with us. Please join us for worship.

Faithfully,

Katy

It's wonderful to have Fr. Bruce DeGooyer and his wife Sylvia join us for Sunday services. The Rev. Heather Mueller always brightens our day with her warmth and aloha (and goodies) whether she is preaching or in the pews.

Please join us at our current Worship Site
