Hello Kim,

As 2025 begins, we wanted to take a look back at all the wonderful things that happened for the Hagood Mill Historic Site in 2024.

  • We hosted 30 field trips amounting to over 750 students learning about upcountry life and culture.
  • Through an Arts for All grant from the South Carolina Arts Commission, we were able to make the Visitors Center more ADA compliant.
  • The blacksmith shop was enlarged, and a woodworking shop/multipurpose area was installed.
  • The Heritage Pavilion enclosure project was started.
  • We hosted hundreds of students in a variety of classes including blacksmithing and foraging.
  • A mushroom garden was added through the efforts of Chef Eric Adema.
  • Chef Eric also refurbished the outdoor oven.
  • The disc golf course was completed to include 18 holes.
  • The Hagood Mill Foundation celebrated 5 years of day-to-day operation of the site.
  • We hosted 11 third Saturday events including the South Carolina Old Time Fiddlers Convention and State Competition and the Native American Celebration.
  • The Dodgens General Store, donated by the Jimmy Lee and Helen Dodgens, was dedicated. It joins our other historic buildings as an interpretive space about rural life in the upcountry.

These accomplishments would not be possible without the support of friends like you. Thank you for what you do to help us in our mission to promote the preservation of upcountry life and culture.

With Kindest Regards,

Kim Clevenger

Assistant Director
