EDUCATE. EMPOWER. LEAD.

Greetings from the CEO

As we move into March, I hope this newsletter finds you well. We are sorry that you haven't received a newsletter from us in a while, as we have been very busy with programming and training our new Maryland Corps members. We've made fantastic strides in our organization and mentoring programs this past quarter. I'm incredibly proud of the dedication and hard work I've seen across the board from our staff, volunteers, mentors, and mentees. We are in critical need of financial support for many of our youth programs if we want to continue with free to no cost of our full-time programming we provide our communities.

We must almost highlight the amazing work happening in our International Chapters as they have been busy empowering and educating over 500 girls throughout their communities for the last 2 quarters. Be sure to check out their stories of impact below.

If you haven't joined one of our monthly events or trips please come back as we miss you!

As always, thank you for being a member of the SG Family!

Love,

Kaprece James

Black History Month

"A people without the knowledge of their history is like a tree without roots."

- Marcus Garvey.

This powerful quote by Marcus Garvey underscores the importance of understanding and preserving history to advance future generations. With that in mind, we hope you had a fulfilling and impactful Black History Month.

What we have been doing

M.I.L.E. Conference

Stella’s Girls, Inc. member Sydney Cooksey represented us at the M.I.L.E. Conference, which was curated to empower the next generation of leaders and hosted by the Calvert County Concerned Black Women. Sydney shared with middle and high school students the importance of participating in mentoring programs and summer program opportunities to advance themselves and explore suitable career paths.

Sip & Paint: Mentor Meetup

In our continuing efforts to empower our mentors, we held a "Sip & Paint" event on January 19, 2025. The primary goal of this event was to build stronger bonds between our mentor and staff.

National Mentoring Month

On January 14, 2025, Stella’s Girls was presented by the Charles County Commissioners, with a proclamation recognizing January as National Mentoring Month. This proclamation highlighted our dedication to empowering and uplifting our youth through mentoring, leadership, and education for the last 5 years throughout Charles County.

Sierra Leone Chapter

Back in December, our CEO, visited our Sierra Leone Chapter in Port Loko to meet with the team, our scholars, and the Wessalsyn Secondary School to evaluate our impact over the last 5 years. Kaprece presented 30 students with school supplies and engaged with our 5 scholars under our newly named initiative, the PEARL program, in partnership with the Southern Mayland Chain (MD) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated.

While there, we also launched a new team in Freetown, who we introduced on social media in November during 16 Days of Activism.
