Years ago, someone shared a story with me about a man who endured a harrowing experience. He was shot multiple times at close range, suffering severe gunshot wounds. Remarkably, he survived. Yet, the emotional scars of that trauma have stayed with him. The shrapnel from the bullets remains lodged in his body—too close to vital organs to remove—preventing him from fully experiencing joy, love, or peace.
How many of us carry similar emotional scars? Often, we learn tools to cope when these wounds surface, but here’s the good news: unless the shrapnel is a physical bullet dangerously close to vital parts of us, we can take action to heal.
Personally, I spent years navigating the landscape of therapy—both private and group—sharing my stories, gaining insights, and learning strategies to cope. Each visit felt like I was ripping the bandage off my own "gunshot wounds," exposing the pain again and again.
But that changed. With the support of my group—the Equine Gestalt Coaching Method Herdmates—I was able to delve deeper and finally release the shrapnel from my Self. It's gone now.
I still remember those painful moments, but the sharp edges have dulled, allowing me space for joy, love, and peace once more. This journey is why I am a Gestaltist. I’ve learned that healing is possible, and I’m committed to helping others find their path to freedom, too.
