Here is a heads up in case you hadn't heard yet, Saturday Bearcat basketball games are rescheduled for tonight. Women will begin at 6:00 PM and men will begin at 8:00 PM. We will broadcast the games on our airwaves so our normal programming will be disrupted this evening. #GoBearcats!

This week's news

The Maryville Police Department swore in three new officers to its ranks Dec. 22. These three new officers are Isaiah Bruley, Ian Long and Jacob Ferris. Maryville Chief of Police Mike Stolte said the goal is to be fully staffed by the end of the year. Micah Stolley with KXCV has more.

With Venezuela in the headlines, 3 Northwest students wonder what comes next. On Jan. 3, 2026, Wilmer Jimenez awoke to texts from his mother who was at home in Puerto Cabello, Venezuela. Jimenez, a junior studying at Northwest Missouri State University, was in the United States preparing for the spring semester. Hours after ICE toured a Kansas City warehouse council blocks federal detention center permits. Several federal agents appeared at the warehouse at 14901 Botts Road on Thursday morning, following speculation on social media this week that ICE may be ramping up their presence in the metro area. KCUR's Celisa Calacal has the story.

A Kansas City cooking class teaches blind young chefs to throw down in the kitchen. All these pre-teens have some degree of vision loss or are blind. Most are stepping in to work in a kitchen for the first time. Brandon Azim with KCUR has more.

Ameren Missouri wants to construct a nearly 30-mile transmission line through Callaway and Montgomery counties, prompting concerns from the Missouri Farm Bureau and some landowners. Jana Rose Schleis has the story with KBIA.

As Donald Trump celebrated his presidential victory, the Office of Personnel Management counted more than 2.3 million federal employees around the country for the year 2024. More than 80% of them worked outside the nation's capital, including communities in metro Kansas City and across Missouri and Kansas. KCUR's Holly Edgell and Daniel Wheaton has the story.

U.S. Department of Agriculture officials are expressing support for regenerative agriculture as part of the Trump Administration's "Make America Healthy Again" agenda. Through the Regenerative Pilot Program, the USDA plans to allocate $700 million toward helping farmers implement regenerative agriculture methods in 2026. KBIA has more.
