This week's news

Unpaid caregiving is reaching unprecedented levels nationwide, but a new analysis suggests Missouri may be less burdened than most states — even as advocates warn many families are still falling through the cracks. Najifa Farhat with KBIA reports.

Bad weather can be stressful, but perhaps even more so if it has the ability to wipe out a season of work, as it can in agriculture. Now, new University of Missouri study is looking into how weather affects farmer mental health and well-being. Jana Schleis with KBIA reports.

The landscape of abortion rights in Missouri could change drastically because of a trial set to begin Monday in Jackson County Circuit Court. Noah Taborda with KCUR has the story.

Is your home in need of some color this winter? The University of Missouri Extension suggests bromeliads as a vibrant, low-maintenance option for indoor plant lovers. KXCV-KRNW's Jessica Peddycoart has more.

The Missouri Department of Transportation is planning improvements to the intersection of U.S. Route 71 and 340th Street south of Maryville in anticipation of increased traffic from a new natural gas power plant. Read Corby Rardon's story.

Maryville vigil honors Renee Good and other victims of "oppressive power". On Jan. 12, the movement came to Maryville, MO as residents turned out for a demonstration and vigil, lining up along Main Street in front of the United Methodist Church near the city’s historic center. Gavin McGough has more.

At the Maryville Planning and Zoning Commission's 6-1 recommendation, the Maryville City Council voted unanimously against a special-use permit that would make a townhome into a short-term rental property Monday evening. Erickson said a long-term rental would likely be occupied by college students. While she said she didn’t want to diminish college students’ importance to the community, she also didn’t want the house to go through the increased wear and tear that comes with renting to that demographic. Dakota Oswalt with the Northwest Missourian has the story.
