In-Depth News, Information And Entertainment

Greetings!

I’m so glad you’re reading the very first edition of our KXCV-KRNW newsletter! We’ve wanted a way to share updates directly with you, and this feels like the perfect start.

There’s a lot happening at the station right now. We just launched our brand-new website, kxcv.org. It’s fresh, easy to use, and makes it simpler than ever to listen live, catch up on news, or explore programs. You can even connect through the Bearcat Public Media app if you’re on the go.

But I also want to be honest—this year feels different. With Congress’ decision to rescind funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, KXCV-KRNW will lose nearly $198,000 every year. That’s a huge challenge, and it makes your support more important than ever.

That’s why our upcoming Fall Fund Drive, October 4–10, means so much. Every single gift keeps trusted news, inspiring music, and local voices strong on the air. When you give, you’re standing up for public radio in our region and making sure it continues for years to come.

I hope you’ll join us during the drive, check out the new website, and keep listening. We wouldn’t be here without you, and I can’t thank you enough for being part of our radio family.

With appreciation,

John Coffey I Station Manager

Residents reflect on the Maryville community as the city plans for its future

KXCV News has been covering Maryville’s comprehensive planning process, which will set the city’s course for the next 20 years.

As part of that effort, the city has been asking residents what they’d like to see in their community, so KXCV decided to ask as well. Following an open house this summer at the Maryville Public Library, Gavin McGough has more.

Centennial Series promotes education and preservation of St. Joseph's history

1927 marked the height of a golden age in the city of St. Joseph; the Missouri Theater and City Hall were newly opened, and the river town was bustling with the spirit of the Roaring Twenties.

As the centennial of that year draws near a local civic group has come together to honor the legacy, educate the public, and preserve the history of that time. The group has recruited local historians, city residents, and architects to produce its “Centennial Celebration Series.”

Mosaic Medical Center – Albany opens new cancer care facility

Mosaic Medical Center - Albany is beginning to see patients at its recently completed Cancer Care Clinic.

The clinic is being added as the hospital reports an increase in cancer in the region. Dr. Katie Dias, President of the Albany center and a Family Practitioner said the rise in cases might be related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Professor of American history offers context on Missouri lawmakers’ recent special session

Last week the Missouri State Legislature passed a major reform of its initiative petition process, a method for voters to place issues directly on the ballot and create law by a vote of the people.

For context on the effort, KXCV’s Gavin McGough spoke with Dr. Jessica Gracey, a Professor of History at Northwest Missouri State University.
