Conference title within reach as Bearcats hit final stretch

One of the biggest matches in program history for Northwest Missouri State soccer is coming this weekend in Maryville.

Washburn's won the last two MIAA titles, while Northwest is still in the hunt for their first.

"Our program is treading in new waters," Bearcat head coach Marc Gordon said during the weekly Coaches Show on KXCV-KRNW. "These are some growth games for us."

A community-driven effort to preserve three high schools and seek cost-savings elsewhere is the latest plan to bring the embattled school system back to health.

After this summer's revelation of a $20 million budget shortfall set off a rapid and often emotional process to draft a school consolidation plan, the St. Joseph School District Board of Education voted on Oct. 27 to spare it's three high schools and pursue a plan developed not by administrators but by a softball coach and teacher in the district.

Northwest Board of Regents hears updates on appropriations and enrollment at a spirited Homecoming-week meeting

The Northwest Missouri State University Board of Regents met on Oct. 24 with an agenda light on business but heavy with ceremony ahead of the university’s homecoming festivities.

Tatum closed his remarks by speaking forcefully of the university's position. "We are in a very strong position to be a leader in higher education in this state and in this region. That comes from the people who work here and the activities they are involved in," he said. "We are on the precipice of something unbelievable as a university."
