New restaurant set to open at Mozingo Event Center

A new restaurant is coming to the Mozingo Event center, filling the space left vacant about a year ago by the William Coy Restaurant, a farm-to-table bistro that operated at Mozingo for six years.

Kim and Mike Howard of Platte City, Missouri, have signed a lease to open Lake 75 Tavern, a family0friednly sports bar and grill featuring what they describe as an elevated but causal menu. the restaurant will offer a variety of American fare, including pizza, burgers, wings, and salads, along with beer, wine and cocktails.

An opening date has not yet been announced. Updates will be shared on Lake 75 Tavern’s social media accounts and through the city’s official communication channels.

A&G Restaurant marks 50 years of "exceptional service and community dedication" in Maryville

When George Groumoutis and his brother, Tony, opened the A&G Restaurant on Maryville's Main Street in 1975 it was already the fifth restaurant in their portfolio, which stretched across multiple towns along the Missouri-Iowa border. But from the start, Groumoutis knew he and his family were in Maryville to stay.

As businesses have come and gone, and waves of change have rolled through Maryville’s commercial economy, the A&G has remained the town’s prized steakhouse, and a local favorite. Groumoutis thanked the people of Maryville for their unabating support. “After 50 years, it’s history,” he said.

As of now, Groumoutis has no plans to close or sell the restaurant.

A tiny Missouri fish could shape the future of local water quality

Missouri’s drinking water has an unlikely guardian: a tiny endangered fish found only in Perryville’s cave system.

The nearly matchstick-sized grotto sculpin depends on fragile underground streams and The Conservation Fund stepped in to protect its habitat by buying land at risk from St. Louis’ expansion.

"The grotto sculpin is an indicator, a bioindicator of the health of our environment, and in particular in these cave systems; they are dependent on high water quality," Miller explained. "What happens on the surface of a cave really affects what goes on down below inside the water systems within these caves."

Perry County contains more than 700 documented caves, one of the highest concentrations in Missouri, making the newly protected site part of a much larger underground landscape still being explored.

Missouri redistricting foes may have dealt big blow to Trump-backed congressional map

President Donald Trump's push to get Missouri to send another Republican to the U.S. House after the 2026 midterm elections is facing a major challenge now that opponents submitted more than 305,000 signatures Tuesday to place the new congressional map up for a statewide vote.

But because there weren't enough votes in the state legislature to make the map go into effect right away, opponents of the new map launched a referendum campaign to place the plan up for a statewide vote. The group People Not Politicians turned in almost triple the number of signatures required to Hoskins on Tuesday.

In an interview on Tuesday, Hoskins said Missouri's elections officials will have until late July to determine whether there are enough signatures for the plan to go on the ballot in November.

Elizabeth Franklin, a volunteer who helped gather petition signatures said Tuesday that efforts to delegitimize the referendum campaign clearly failed.
