A Note from our Executive Director

Jeremy Melusky

Hello everyone!

Our meal center has been rocking and rolling. Thanks to a grant we were able to install a new commercial electric panel during the Fourth of July week. We are now ready to begin pursuing funding to acquire essential commercial kitchen appliances, including a dishwasher and walk-in freezer. It will be a game changer for sure.

We received an incredible $10,000 grant from Bristol County Savings Bank, which will allow us to begin upgrading our inefficient windows and doors. We are also actively seeking bids from architects to begin designing an ADA-compliant restroom that will be installed upstairs. This is another important step toward making TacT more accessible and welcoming to everyone.

By the Numbers: This July we served an impressive 1,413 meals, averaging 94 meals per day. These numbers were achieved even though we were closed for a week to install the new electric panel.

Did you know?... We recently adjusted our to-go meal policy so guests dining with us can receive their to-go meal earlier, making it easier for those who rely on the bus to get to work on time.

What's Cookin'

Summer is so much fun to be cooking! Farmers Markets, vegetable gardens, fresh fruits and herbs. I could go on. Having a small vegetable garden, with lots of tomatoes, there is something I love to make - a fresh pasta sauce with Burrata cheese and garden fresh basil.

Volunteer Spotlight

Debbie is one of our longest standing volunteers. Debbie began volunteering under the leadership of Margaret Jones at Our Daily Bread in 1997. Michaeline Saladyga and Wendy Berry took over from Margaret before founding TacT 11 years ago and Debbie followed to continue her service. On Saturdays you can find Debbie and her husband, Gil, at the Matthew Mission Food Pantry at the First Parish Church.

Debbie, a cherished member of the Thursday morning crew, brings in the "joke of the day," to share with her fellow volunteers. Her wealth of experience makes her the go-to resource for any questions that arise, as she generously shares her knowledge and insights, fostering a culture of learning and support among the team. What truly sets Debbie apart, however, is her heartfelt commitment to getting to know every guest personally. She takes the time to connect, ensuring that everyone feels welcomed and valued—a true embodiment of TacT's dedication to compassion and community connections. Debbie is a thoughtful, kind person who believes it is our duty to be a helper to those in need.

TacT is truly blessed to have a dedicated volunteer like Debbie!

Healthy Eating Tip

Cut Back on Sodium

Eating too much sodium can raise your risk of high blood pressure, heart attack, and stroke. More than 70% of the sodium Americans consume comes from packaged and prepared foods. While sodium has many forms, 90% of the sodium we consume is from salt. See the top sources of sodium.

To cut back on sodium, try this:

  • Avoid highly processed foods that are high in sodium.
  • Common processed foods with high sodium include breads, pizza, and deli meats.
  • Read the Nutrition Facts label to find foods low in sodium or lower sodium options.
  • Buy unprocessed food to prepare at home.
  • Good options include fresh or frozen vegetables.
