Welcome to our Newsletter

Thanks for subscribing to the Borough Bulletin. This is our first edition of what will be a regular newsletter. I am grateful my career path led to West Chester Borough. Maybe you can help too? We are always looking for borough residents interested in public service who care about our town and want to make it better. There are over 13 Boards and Commissions to serve on, elected office, and occasional volunteer opportunities. We also hire people with a broad range of skills in departments of police, parks, building and housing, administration, parking, public works and wastewater. Information is available on our website at www.west-chester.com. I hope to hear from you soon.

Get to Know

Nicole Scimone, Borough Council President

What’s your go-to activity on a perfect day in West Chester?

The perfect start to a Saturday, we wake up and walk the dogs around town on what we call the "Treat Trail" (we stop at coffee shops, barber shops and other locations where the dogs each get a treat).  We then hit up the Growers Market and then back home. In the evening, we walk up town for dinner at one of our many delicious restaurants!

What’s the best piece of advice you ever received?

Years ago, I heard the quote "There are three sides to every story." I try to approach every issue that comes my way with that understanding. It really helps to keep things in perspective.

What would residents be most surprised to know about you?

I am a 4th Generation West Chester Resident. My Great-Grandmother, Grandmother and her sisters settled here many years ago, after coming to the US from Sicily. And despite moving away and living in multiple cities and countries, I always felt that West Chester is ingrained in me and who I am.

What made you want to serve as a Borough Council Member?

As mentioned in my prior answer, I just feel that the Borough is a part of my makeup and I just want to do what I can to help it stay a great place to live and maybe even help make it a little better.

What song is currently on repeat for you?

Hmmm... That's a toughy. I really like Mondo Cozmo, who is an artist out of the Philly Area. I would love it if Uptown! could find a way to get him here.

Updates from Parks & Recreation

Keith Kurowski, Parks & Recreation Director

The Borough’s Parks, Recreation and Open-Space Plan was adopted by Borough Council in February as an addendum to the Borough’s Comprehensive Plan. The plan will guide us as we work to enhance our parks. Among the improvements we are focusing on first are John O. Green park and Hoopes park playground. We are also planning for a future trail that will coexist with the West Chester Railroad and potential future commuter service.

The Borough is working with the West Chester Area Council of Governments (WCACOG) to plan an America 250 celebration on August 2nd. Do not forget our fantastic lineup of events, programs, camps, and bus trips. A full list of offerings can be found here.

We look forward to seeing you in our parks this season and enjoying the great events we are planning for you. There’s never been a better time to get involved and enjoy everything our community has to offer!

West Chester Fun Fact

During WWII, West Chester produced more life-saving penicillin than anywhere else in the world, thanks to local chemist G. Raymond Rettew.

Introducing Our New Rental Tracker

Nick Fink, Manager of Enterprise Data and Applications

West Chester Borough has launched a new Rental License Tracker, an interactive web app designed to give residents, landlords, and local officials real‑time visibility into rental property licensing across the Borough. The tool provides a centralized, map‑based view of registered rentals, helping improve transparency, streamline compliance monitoring, and support safer, well‑regulated housing.
