Sunday School

We invite you to join us for Sunday School each

Sunday morning in person at 9:45 am.

Starting July 5, Sunday School will be reading and studying 2nd Peter in the Bible. We hope to carry on the study of scriptures straight from the Bible. We will rotate leadership to those willing to serve. All are welcome to join in this study of God’s word on Sunday mornings at 9:45. Discussions are often very enlightening and help us all grow stronger in our understanding and faith.

If you cannot join us in person you can join via Zoom.

Click on Zoom Instructions to join the class at 8:45 Sunday mornings.

Children's Church

We provide Children's Church each Sunday, except Communion Sunday, for elementary school children attending church. Kids will be dismissed for Children's Church after the choir special.

A Word from the Pastor

I am very excited about coming back to Arcadia as your pastor. When I first started feeling I was being called into ministry I was sitting in the congregation at Arcadia. I thought that my pastorate would be at Arcadia. I am beginning my 4th year of ministry at Milburn UMC in Carlisle County. My District Superintendent offered me a dual charge. I feel led to pastor both churches. This required both churches to change their worship times. Milburn is changing from 11am to 9am. Arcadia is changing from 10am to 11 am. Sunday School at Arcadia will now be at 9:45am.  Several ladies will be co-teaching since I will be preaching at Milburn before I come to Arcadia.

I love Arcadia UMC. I have been a member since Mary and I married in 1977. My faith in Christ has grown so much in these 48 years. There have been so many great friends and pastors that have helped me to grow in my Christian walk in my years at Arcadia. I pray all of you will join me as we continue our legacy of sharing the love of Jesus. Like Robby always said, “Love one another. God says love. We are called to love one another.” That is our mission as a church. To share God’s love both inside and outside the walls of our church. Please pray for me as we begin our ministry together. I will offer two scriptures as I close, Phillippians 4:13, “We can do all things through Christ who strengthens us.” Matthew 19:26, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” I look forward to seeing you at our 11am service beginning 7/5/2026.

God bless you,

Kevin Paschall, pastor

A Note from Pastor Sherry

Dear Arcadia Family,

Wayne and I so appreciated the delicious potluck retirement dinner and the kind words spoken aloud and written on your cards. We also thank you all for the gift given to the Methodist Nomads in our honor. It has been a privilege to be your pastor for the past 6 years and I will dearly miss you.

Bible Study

Beginning July 9-August 27, there will also be a new Bible study held on Thursday Mornings at 10:00. It is a continuation of Liz Curtis Higgs series on The Really Bad Girls of the Bible. It looks at different women in the Bible who earned that title and what we can learn from them. It has relevance to today with great discussion and humor mixed in.

United Women in Faith

UWF will meet at 10:00 am on July 14.

Disciple NOW

Disciple NOW will meet at 1:00 pm on June 14.

Potluck

There will be a potluck on July 19, after church, to welcome Kevin Paschall as our new pastor. It will be an “SSSS” menu of Soups, Salads, Sandwiches, and Scoops of delicious homemade ice cream. We look forward to a light and delicious lunch with our church family. Please come and be part of this special event

Do You Have Calendar Items to Post?

There is a large calendar in the Disciples Room, and dates for using the church facility must align with the free time on the newsletter and big calendar. This might include class or family reunions, weddings, special group activities, etc. See Pastor Sherry for more info.

Thoughts from the Corner Box

July is not the month for new beginnings. Normally, new beginnings start on New Year's Day and last until, hopefully, Groundhog Day. New beginnings can be starting a new diet, starting an exercise program, going for a daily walk, reading the Bible every morning, or finding a quiet place to pray. Good intentions always stack up at the start of the year, but will the same things apply in July? And to take that question a bit further, why doesn't the Methodist Church know that January marks the start of new beginnings, not July?

If you haven't already guessed, I'll tell you that I'm talking about the changing of the guard at many United Methodist churches. It's something we as Methodists do, and most of us probably accept it, but we've never really gotten used to it happening. I mostly understand and agree with the reasoning, or what I know about it, but at times it still bothers me, because I'm not a person who loves change.

This time, the change will be a little different for me and maybe for you, too. Someone I got to know from Sunday school, choir, and just by being part of the congregation, will be taking over the helm, stepping up to the plate, and actually coming home to roost.

I guess I should stop using idioms, even though I was having a good time, and welcome Kevin Paschall to his new role as our pastor. Of course, Kevin isn't new to our church, but the role he will be playing is new to us and may be a little different for him.

As a congregation, we will need to make a few changes to accommodate Kevin, as he intends to serve two churches. Both churches will be changing their worship times, and the hope is that the changes will not harm either of us, but will give Kevin the time he needs to continue his work and to start his new journey with us.

New pastors cannot fill the shoes of the previous pastors because the shoes won't fit. They will either be too long or too short, too wide or too narrow. New pastors come in with visions of grandeur and ideas they think will set the world on fire, but then the parking lot needs fixing, the air conditioning isn't cooling enough, the offerings have dwindled, someone thinks the sermons are too long-winded, and sadly, reality has set in.

Among other things, the church is a business, and to keep a business running smoothly, the preacher has to do more than preach. He is the guardian of the church, the supporter of the flock, the guidance counselor, the driving force behind every decision, and the one who has to navigate the waters when things don't go as planned.

Standing up on Sunday morning and talking for twenty minutes sounds easy. I can talk for twenty minutes without batting an eye, but as I've pointed out, that isn't the only job the preacher has; honestly, it might be the easiest part of the pastor's job.

Because July marks the start of a new era for us, for old time's sake, we need to remember how we got here, who opened the doors and led the way, and on whose shoulders we now stand. In July, Kevin Paschall will accept the responsibility of being our leader and guardian of our faith journey. He is ready. He is all set to go. It won't be easy. It will be a challenge, but it will happen because, as Bob Dylan so aptly put it, the times, they are a-changing.

“Then I will give you shepherds after my own heart, who will lead you with knowledge and understanding.” Jeremiah 3:15 (NIV)

Sandra Mayhugh, July 2026

Welcome Visitors

The Disciple NOW Committee has a new bag to give visitors that come to church. It will contain a letter to them from Sherry, a newsletter, an Upper Room, the history of the church, and a dozen cinnamon rolls. We are asking the ushers, or anyone available, to see that a visitor receives a bag. The frozen rolls are in the freezer in the furnace room.

Our Vision

Arcadia will be a church where everyone grows as a disciple of Christ and helps others become disciples, all walking the discipleship pathway together.

The members of Arcadia UMC are actively engaged in working to fulfill our mission. All are welcome to join us. We look forward to seeing everyone on Sunday!
