WE CARE:
Chair: Paula Allen
Malama Bears: We received an order of 300 Malama Bears. A packing party was held at the Thrift Shop on November 6. Mary Monohon, Linda Tsark, Linda McColgan and Pat Dixon packed the bears into bags of 20. Forty bears valued at $180 were donated to Kapiolani Hospital and 60 Bears valued at $270 were given to Shiners Hospital. Photo: Bears arrive in boxes.
Shriners Hospital: Member volunteer Helen Taufa’asau delivered a $175 donation request to Shriners Hospital which included card games, Rubik's Cubes, watercolor paints, pads, and brushes for the patients.
OPERATION SCHOOL BELL:

On Wednesday, November 17, committee members and volunteers got together and packed 41 Kokua Clothing Boxes of much-needed emergency clothing ie: shorts, underwear,
t-shirts (and shoes that are coming soon) for students in need, as part of our Operation School Bell program.
Chair Laurelyn Berger expressed her thanks to member volunteers Andrea Cyriacks, Pat Dixon, Mimi Dizon, Mary Monohon, Nancy Sparacino, Helen Taufa’asau, Bonnie Trustin, Linda Tsark, and Margie Van Swearingen — the dedicated team that pitched in for the effort. Special thanks to Mary Monohon who ordered all the clothing. The boxes of clothing will be delivered to eligible Title 1 schools.

OPERATION WILDLIFE
Chair: Hazel Sumile
Operation Wildlife has purchased a new Microsoft Surface Pro computer tablet for use with the program.
The Operation Wildlife program has reached more than 20,000 people since its inception in 2013. Every year that Operation Wildlife has done school presentations, the evaluations returned from teachers at participating schools were overwhelmingly positive. A common thread that is echoed over and over is what a wonderful, once-in-a-lifetime experience this is for the students and how the presentation supports student learning of science and social studies.
The current Operation Wildlife Committee previewed the updated version of the "HIPPO" slide show, with suggested revisions. The new slide show will be made into a video.
When member volunteers travel to schools this coming spring, they will be taking the video presentation along with a select group of biofacts that help support what video says about environmental protection and stewardship.
Pre and post lessons will be provided for teachers.
Presentations will be made only on the island of Oahu this year. Visits to neighbor island schools are anticipated for the next school year.
We wish to give a huge shout out to community volunteer Myrtle Ching-Rappa, who has been helping with the Operation Wildlife presentation over the past several years. Mahalo Myrtle! We couldn't do this without you!

Helping Hands Hawaii – Marty Kahoe delivers clothing for adults and children on a regular basis.
The Boys & Girls Club of Waianae – This is an after school program for students in the Waianae area. We will be providing small toys, games, etc., as incentive awards for students in their program.
The River of Life Mission – This Chinatown facility is still closed to “guests” at this time.
