An automated platform for roads less traveled: ADS for Rural America
"Our mission is to look at the connection between all road users and how we can make things safer," said Omar Ahmad, project manager and NADS deputy director. "When we look at automated vehicles, it's clear there's an over-emphasis on urban areas and interstates. Until now the focus has been on perfect roads in perfect weather—we will examine the challenges of rural environments, which are often imperfect."
Read our new case study on the ADS for Rural America project to learn more about how the project also illustrates the benefits of next-generation mobility technology for populations underserved by public transportation options. And check out our next SAM Talk, detailed below, for even more details.

SAM Talk: Improving safety and broadening mobility on rural roads with data
The Automated Driving Systems (ADS) for Rural America project utilizes an automated Ford Transit 350HD platform developed as part of Hexagon's Smart Autonomous Mobility (SAM) solutions portfolio to collect ADS data and passenger impressions while navigating a 47-mile loop of rural Iowa roads.
As part of our SAM Talk series for 2021, learn how the National Advanced Driving Simulator (NADS) at the University of Iowa plans to make this data available for ADS developers using a $7 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation.

Meet the team: Joshua Psinas
Josh Psinas recently joined our team in Morton as a shipping associate after first hearing about AutonomouStuff five years ago. Like many of us, Josh was fascinated by a company that helps develop autonomous solutions worldwide.
"I was intrigued by the technology that goes into the vehicles. Working with GPS and Fleet tools, I was vaguely familiar with the industry," Josh said. "After leaving sales, I moved into logistics with another company here in Morton, and when things slowed down, I was laid off. I knew I wanted to stay in logistics and supply chain, and saw an opportunity with AS — and I jumped at it."
We love it when our neighbors recognize opportunity with us, because we see it in them, too!

Webinar on demand: Frontiers of GNSS Accuracy
Technological developments build upon what has come before. In this presentation, Paul Alves, director of correction services for Hexagon’s Autonomy & Positioning division, explains why we have to stop thinking of Real-Time Kinematic (RTK) and Precise Point Positioning (PPP) corrections as two separate technologies.
By seeing them as a continuous chain of developments, we’re able to continue innovating and achieve the best of both technologies: RTK From the Sky.
Learn about the evolution of RTK, PPP and the frontiers of GNSS accuracy in this on-demand webinar.
